I'm supposed to be sorting a wood pile but yesterday (traipsing around town with Minibags— her xmas shopping and a visit to the orthodontist) is hitting back so I'm just footering about on here.

Hello to my darling Granspals. I love you all. Sharing my news with you is a great comfort. May I say that there are many of you who are dealing with varying degrees of sadness/frustration/difficulties...and it is I who admires each and every one of you.

MacS believes that his father had an aortic aneurysm repair. The firm for whom he worked, arranged for him to have treatment in a private hospital. My own father also had a repair job...seemed to improve, had a stroke and died. He was in his 80s. MacS has been told that he'll have the MRI scan done in Clydebank hospital. Who knows, I may even get to meet up with bags

Grannyknot I also like the quote. Your message was full of hope...and very humorous with it. Our Rory gets into a bit of state when he's left alone for what he considers to be "too long". He is almost always sick during our absence. The moment we walk through the door he behaves in a very skittish manner. He also demands to be allowed to sit on the mat looking out of the door. He also insists on having several chicken treats. A canny cat!

I am either very thick or have missed something. Has Galen gone on another cruise or have I missunderstood?

soop At least you now know what will be happening and I know from experience you will be very anxious for it to start. I hope it all starts moving for you very soon and send my very best wishes to you both.

I echo everyone else's love and admiration soop and know you and McS will be fine facing whatever lies ahead, together.

Grannyknot - things are moving ahead a little for DD too as she has found a house she likes, can afford with help and is just round the corner. Now we have to hope the landlady likes her. I hope things run smoothly for your DD too.

I haven't been in here for absolute yonks been too busy keeping head above water so to speak (but that is not remotely important in the light of what other folk have to deal with). Hope, admiration, tears with a smile and a host of other feelings flick through my mind when I read the kitchen postings. But the over-riding vibe on this thread is "glass half full". Reminds me of the poem "Two people looked out through the bars, the one saw mud and the other saw stars".

A quick update (especially for kitty) re adult children "squatters" - who moved in "for about 3 weeks" - two months ago! They have found a house they can actually afford and their offer was accepted (yay) and now we are all nail-biting as SIL is a freelancer (ooh) but the mortgage advisor assures us all will be well (yay) but it is taking forever for him to find a "yes" for their borrowing (ooh) which means that they are with us for longer than first anticipated as things are moving very slowly (ooh or yay depending on which way you look at it!)

Entertainment is afforded by their cat Ms Mia Ow - who this morning after they had both left for their long-day-at-work cried for them at the front door much like a toddler would for its mother! It will only drink water that drips from the tap so that has become part of my day time duties. No, my teeth are not gritted

Anyway in the midst of all this chaos daughter and I are enjoying ourselves - I secretly spoil just her with a home cooked meal waiting as she comes through the door (of course not just her) - and she has the day off tomorrow and we are having a lie in and then heading off together to go and see the Paddington movie

Just been catching up with the news and am standing back in huge admiration of your, and MacS's fortitude and positivity, dear soop. You are an example to us all and I join the others in sending love and best wishes for whatever comes in the New Year.

In difficult circumstances I always resort to my late Dad's maxim - "Take it a day at a time and when that is too hard take it an hour at a time". Doing just that has helped me through a lot of problems.

I hope you both have a very happy Christmas meanwhile.

Dear soop, you have a lot of traipsing around (Oban, Glasgow, Vale of Leven...) to do soon but you have such spirit that I know that whatever faces you, you will surmount it with your usual courage. Poor MacS sounds as if he is in for the long haul but the best thing is that he has you beside him. Just look after yourself too and Rory of course.

Soop, if my husband`s treatment was anything to go by, they`ll probably want to deal with the aneurysm first. My hubby went for a CT scan to see how far the bowel cancer had spread (if it had), but it was halted when his aneurysm (10cm) was spotted, and he was admitted there and then, because they couldn`t/wouldn`t do anything about the cancer until the aneurysm had been dealt with. He had the op for that, was sent home, and a month later admitted for the bowel cancer op, which was successful. All my love, admiration and best wishes to both you and MacSporran, and I`m sure you`ll come out the other side of this still smiling.

Well here we are...back in our cosy home with a very GRUMPY cat!

I have lots of your kind messages to read. I shall do so in the morning. MacS has a grade 4 lymphoma (a number of sites) and will be having therapy once the degree of deterioration has been established. Knowing how slow or rapid the problem progresses is, we're informed, essential. His scan shows that he also has an aortic aneurism (not vast) 4.5 (we're told)...in February he's to go to Glasgow hospital for another MRI scan as the aneurism also needs monitoring. The MacMillan ward in Oban hosp was really delightful. It's new and the staff are super friendly. We met patients who were having chemotherapy and blood transfusions. I shall upload a pic of Sandra, the MacM nurse.

Anyways...we are in good spirits. We've been singing along to some uplifting Scottish music. I shall try to upload one of the songs that I love to hear over and over - the singer is Mary Cameron. I'll do that in the morning. Cats need feeding. I now shall try to upload the two images taken today.

Our U3A just had tea and nibbles but also a magician who went round the tables bamboozling us with his tricks; and several quizzes. Then I had to leave to see the doctor.

soop hope things went well today.

I've been at the local U3A Xmas lunch and sang with our singing group as part of the entertainment. Enjoyed it. Probably have eaten all the wrong things but will find out tomorrow!
