It's possible they didn't even know what the urn contained - just checking there was nothing valuable hidden at the bottom...

It must be such a comfort to know your mother is being so well looked after, baubles, I hope she manages to keep on coping. Such a worry for you.

They appear to have little empathy.
And perhaps they were high on drugs.

There are no words to describe these people.

I've just had another call from the officer who attended the scene.

The urn containing my father's ashes had been emptied over the bed.

My poor mother.

I remember waking in the night a lot after our burglary and rushing to see if they'd got X or Y. They usually had. For months afterwards we discovered various things missing. Your Mum will need support for a long time. Also discovered that insurance companies have premium rate numbers so huge phone bill felt like another theft. Good luck over the next wee while

So nasty, seems to be a spate of burglaries at the moment of the catflap/fishing rod variety.
Saying that does not help your poor Mum's situation..... to you both.

My mother was burgled a few years ago, but it took her a further half day before she realised the thieves had actually made off in her car! She was not as troubled as I thought she might be, so hopefully your mum will not be too distressed Baubles. Mind you I once had an intruder trying to break in and it took me years before I felt safe at home.

How awful baubles, it does look as though they knew your mother was away.
You do feel violated. Someone tried to remove my dining room window when I was alone ( DH worked away from home ) I kept asking myself " did they know I was alone" ? or was it just random ?

Utterly despicable- I hope it happens to the low lifes sometime so that they know how violated we feel after the incident.

Yes she knows. I rang her sister first so she could be told in person rather than on the phone. A little later I spoke to my mother.

Such an awful thing to have happened makes it look like your poor mum was watched leaving doesn't it.
Glad your handy-man cousin was available and no doubt he will check everywhere is super secure for your dear mum when she gets home.

So sorry, Baubles. Your mum must be well into the age at which we start to feel very protective of them and it's so hard when dreadful things happen.
Hope that she isn't too upset when she comes home.

Baubles It's horrible to be burgled, I hope they haven't taken anything of sentimental value for your mum.
I also hope the house is made really secure as sometimes burglars return for a second sweep.

She does have a wee dog though who has a very loud bark, as I've noticed when going to the loo through the night.

The fear of being alone again in the house is the worrying thing isn't it?

I had previously arranged to go over a few days after her return for her birthday so I'll just keep to that plan. She will have four nights on her own but one of her sisters lives close by.
