Embarrassing spell checker moment.

I was working in the I.T. Department of a big financial company. We were going to implement a new business system and I had to send out an e-mail which gave details of the changes, different work sections responsibilities, what action to take should there be any problems and a list of contact names and extension numbers. This was particularly detailed and I spell checked it and double-checked it before hitting the send button to send it to a wide distribution list.

One thing I didn't notice was that my manager's name had been 'corrected' from 'Knowles' to 'know-all'. Of course all his fellow managers picked up and this and he got a new nickname. I don't think he believed it wasn't intentional on my part.

Our Admin lady called me over to look at an email that our (very) young designer had sent to a client, accompanying a quotation for a project.

I remember helping him with it, as he was stuck for how to word it. I thought about what to say, and then dictated it to him, but never thought to actually look it over before he sent it.

As he was a bit behind with sending the quote, I included an apology for the delay and the phrase "I do hope this hasn't caused any inconvenience"

Unfortunately in the email that was actually sent, this became "I do hope this hasn't caused any incontinence"

I just hope that they didn't wet themselves laughing confused

The first week I started work for a drug & alcohol agency, they gave me a copy of their annual report, that they had just sent out to all the relevant agencies, health authorities etc. Straight away I noticed a blinder, as they solemnly announced that the borough had a massive "rug problem" - I pointed out that buying a wig wasn't top of most junkies/alcoholics' list and politely asked if anyone had bothered to proof-read it, as it obviously should have read "drug problem"! It did make me giggle though!

Another one I spotted recently was a competition from a wine merchants, offering 'A Case of Win" to the winner! No 'e's' then !

Oh, and the home security company that advertised a fully-fitted alarm system "for your hose" - a bit extreme maybe - I think most people would secure the house long before having a whole security system for the humble garden hose!

I used to work in adoption and I wrote a court report on a little girl who had settled into her lovely new family and was delighted with her new pink willies!

Today I have just received a text from DBH, currently shopping in Tesco. It said simply 'Lagos?'

I answered and said that I could think of better places to spend a holiday, but if that was what he really wanted, I would give it some thought.

But went outside and checked how many lagers we have left, anyway!

I once sent out a flyer to hundreds of people advertising that we did "Dream by Post", which should have read "Cream by Post". (I worked for a Dairy company).

When I was working, an email was sent out inviting important people for 'Cheese and Wind'!

Not alone, I spent ages describing to a friend last week exactly where to buy ankle-height willies. In my case it's all down to American predictive text, those pretend-English-speakers don't have wellies, only willies.

And this time I checked and saw that I had to change it yet again!

Well honestly my computer spell checker just made my daughter choke on her coffee.

I e.mailed her this morning and I thought I had said " And I fell over dad's bloody Wellie". Her e.mail read "And I fell over dad's bloody WILLIE". (anybody else have a computer that does the same?)

Apart from the fact I should so lucky, it was a reminder to check what my computer in it's infinite wisdom wants to print. grin
