I am traumatised and embarrassed!

This morning, i went to our new, huge Sainsburys with DGS2,aged two and a half! Traumatising enough but, while I was packing at the till, I remarked to the cashier that my nylon shopping bags needed a wash as they were really smelly. As I shook the last one out to put the fruit and veg in, out fell a (dead) baby mouse! blush

This thread is so funny! It could happen to any of us, kitty.

joanna I got that cartoon image of a frazzled rat with its hair stood on end and legs spread at each corner. grin

My friend always checks under her chairs before she sits down, as next door's cat leaves dead frogs, voles and mice in her sitting room, then toddles off to look for more.

I, too, was showing prospective buyers around our house, and as we reached the landing I noticed our poodle had left a present on the floor. I bent down picked it up and put it in my pocket! Yuck! Can't remember if I shook hands with them on saying goodbye!

My son found an electrocuted rat which killed itself in his CH boiler.
They have they two cats and get a lot of stinking corpses brought in.

Saying that his house is pretty mucky at the best of time.

Know I shouldn`t laugh but it is a great story and will go down in history in Sainsbury`s staff magazine no doubt. Hope you are no longer traumatised kitty and you will have to gird your loins next time you need to shop in Sainsburys smile

Whilst trying to sell our house, many years ago, I showed a couple into our dining room only to find a headless rabbit under a chair. Present from our Burmese cat. I managed to park myself in front of it and don't know to this day whether they saw it. We did sell the house eventually but not to that couple!

Lona she said she was rummaging around at the back for her winter knickers! I thought that was funny enough!

I prefer my rats electrocuted. There is one living under my greenhouse, all the tomatoes have to be practically bleached before I will eat them!

jamside - oh dear, I was wondering what the smell in my car was, it smelt familiar. I bet a mouse is living in it somewhere.

I really want to know if kitty will ever return to the store? Never mind, it's nearly bobblehat season. Or you could cut and dye your hair and wear dark glasses?

A few years ago I called the washing machine engineer as ours had stopped working. He pulled it out from the cabinets and, teeth clamped around the wire, was an electrocuted rat.
I was so ashamed that we had rodents in the kitchen, probably brought in through the cat flap.
He said not to worry,he had a call out to the Queen Mother's kitchen where she had a big mouse problem. (I don't know which residence!)

Argghh couldn't you have stopped and let the poor thing down gently?

There was one in the back today, so put a pan over the top, got a piece of cardboard from recycling box to lift the lot and walked her up the back path about 250m and gently let her off- probably on her way back now ;)

kitty how cringeworthy! Poor you, but with a bit of luck as its a large shop you may not meet the same cashier next time. Mice are everywhere right now, when we drove to B&Q the other day one was clinging to the grille that stops the leaves getting in the car. Needless to say, as we were travelling at 50 mph it didn't stay long!

kitty grin

janerowena How often did your friend change her undies then? Not often if a mouse had time to build a nest! shock

Eloethan Thu 02-Oct-14 16:58:44

It must have been embarrassing but, sorry Kitty, I had to laugh.

Nelliemoser Thu 02-Oct-14 16:43:41

Kitty Oh dear! Will you go back there? Just blame the cat. grin

kittylester Thu 02-Oct-14 16:16:34

Our cat is a brilliant/awful mouser. We once found DGD3 wandering around with a lovely smal,l grey, cuddly toy that we assumed she'd picked from behind the kitchen door! It was really funny watching DH and the cat trying to get the mouse off a screaming toddler! But none of them were as traumatised as I was!

How funny - sorry shouldn't laugh - its the thought if the Sainsbury staff going into a disinfectant melt down. did they give it back to you? smile

POGS Thu 02-Oct-14 15:54:11

Kitty

You should be ashamed of yourself. grin

Grannyknot Thu 02-Oct-14 15:27:45

.. . I meant to say "eek" for the dead mouse shock

Grannyknot Thu 02-Oct-14 15:26:13

I'm reading a very funny book (memoir) by a Sikh author who - determined to learn English as a child - instead of handing in the piece of wrapping his mum had given him when she sent him shopping - saying to just hand it to the lady behind the counter and she would know what was needed - proudly read out what was printed on the packet instead and announced to the whole shop in his best English ".. . and some santry towels, please!" His phonetic spelling (pronunciation) not mine.

A mouse skeleton once appeared on our kitchen floor during a children's birthday party. I had done more thorough sweeping than usual and had probably gone under the units more with the broom, one of our cats had probably then found it and got it out into the open. I think I managed to dispose of it before any of the parents noticed......

HildaW Thu 02-Oct-14 15:10:14

Actually janerowena....that sounds like a compliment to me...I've never been petite or naturally blonde!

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 14:57:45

Ah.. Ok, I'll share mine - my bikini (wet-look and very heavy, if you remember that stuff) fell off when I emerged from a swimming pool on a Club Med holiday as a young teen. Bottoms fell down, as I leaned forward to pull them up, the top opened itself!

Deafening silence from poolside bar, all chatting ceased and then a voice came 'Ah! La petite Anglaise, elle est vraiment blonde!'

(She really is a blonde) blush

Tegan Thu 02-Oct-14 14:52:55

Not quite the same thing but reminded me of a clip they showed recently of the late, great Joan Rivers where she said how invisible women are post menopause so she would open her bag and out would drop a tampon. Of course, instead of blushing and covering it up [we've all been there ladies, haven't we?] she would make a big thing about it being hers. My other big embarrassment has been the 'yesterdays knickers dropping out of the leg of my jeans as I walk down the street' situation. I'd like to think that has happened only once but I never did learn my lesson about that blush.

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 14:11:56

PS a friend of mine found one in her underwear drawer last week! Complete with nest!

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 14:11:08

I really feel for you, let's face it, it could have been any of us, the little blighters are everywhere, especially at this time of year!

Next door's cat leaves a weekly supply of them on my front doormat, such a lovely greeting for visitors, if that's any consolation. I doubt it though. grin

granjura Thu 02-Oct-14 14:09:34

Thank goodness you were not at ...

Waitrose ...

Now THAT would have been embarrassing ;) lol

kittylester Thu 02-Oct-14 13:56:21

They shut the till down and disinfected the belt, the packing area and then moved the people behind me to another till! I felt as though I should go to the car ringing a bell and saying 'Unclean'! blush.

Seriously, Sainsburys staff were brilliant. It all went over Berties head as he was watching the cars in the car park.
