Anyone find that their back is stiff when getting up in the morning?

Mine is since it got cooler......any ideas on how to deal with it?

Do some stretching on the bed before you get up.. then stretch again once you stand up, I find that if I stretch ham strings that eases my back stiffness.

I have that problem, at times I wonder if I am going to be able to manage it.I self referred to the Occupational Therapy Services. They supplied me with a very simple gadget that fits under the matress, it has an arched handle, that works a treat. Good luck Alie.

Achy back - bane of my life!! Yoga stretches help though, and strengthening your core muscles, ie sit-ups. I do it every morning - get up and feed the dog, then bring a cuppa back up and lie on the bed to do the exercises, starting very gently so I can pretend I haven't quite got up yet smile. If I don't do the exercises every morning, I feel it straight away.

DH has back problems and swears that Pilates helps. It has certainly kept us supple and strengthened our backs which might stop the stiffness.

Most mornings. Try log rolling out of bed. As in this demo.

I also sleep with a pillow under my knees so my back is relaxed and lying flat. Lying flat without a pillow actually pulls on your back joints.

If this has not worked, (I have been known to have to have to eat my breakfast standing up).
I walk slowly around the block to unlock the facet joints in my lower back. I do need to start off very slowly and then speed up as it eases.

These help me.

I hope it might help.

Thanks for the links, both.
I recognise these exercises, I was doing them when I was seeing the physio. I have lost the papers she gave me. Duh.

I think I should go back to the exercises.....and walking more too!
An autumn resolution?

anneey I cannot imagine how your gadget works!

Magnesium oil. Google it - really is as good as it says. Use before bed and in the morning. H & B do plain and also one with wintergreen

Yes Alie, imagine an upside down letter U. It is simply a metal handle, to grab and heave yourself out of bed.
Of course we all have different back problems. I find it helps to lie on my back and hug my knees, before getting out of bed.... my phsio advised me to do this.
Good luck.
