Hello and a warm welcome to you lovely lot. I'm about to brew a fresh pot of tea and there are plenty of goodies for us to munch on...grin

Crafting Sun 28-Sept-14 20:48:23

The others are right Soop you are the nicest person I have never met grin. When I first joined GN it was your posts with news of MacS and his spots that made me brave enough to post my first message into the kitchen and it was your welcoming reply (and that of the other kitcheners) which have kept me joining in ever since. Nothing judgmental or nasty just humour, support and kindness from others makes the kitchen the best place to be. Cheers wine grin

Sorry to hear about your computer problems Soop. They are wonderful machines when they work aren't they? But when they don't they would indeed make a saint swear as my Dad used to say. I am no computer whizz, but are you on Hotmail? It does seem very prone to being hacked and hence demanding extra security. Good luck with it, hope it settles soon. flowers

rosequartz Sun 28-Sept-14 18:31:19

Bellasnana so glad your DH enjoyed his day. My DB is there at the moment and was looking forward to the air show and seeing the Red Arrows.

rosequartz Sun 28-Sept-14 18:23:15

soop, I sent you a pm about the gift shop!

Just finishing off the bottle of Tio Pepe before we go away (it may not keep). There was more in the bottle than I thought ... slurp ... Cheers.
I really should have shared it, sorry Kitcheners!

soop Sun 28-Sept-14 18:20:46

About to partake of a G&T with ice and a slice of lime. Slainte to each and every one of the Kitcheners wine moon

soop Sun 28-Sept-14 18:18:30

I'm all tearful...why, you may ask...I've just come into our kitchen to say that I'm sorry for not being here sooner and what do I find? I cannot begin to put into words the tremendous gratitude that I owe GN for bringing you lot into my life. So there! grin

ffinnochio Now I'm a tad envious. If only I could easily reach Edinburgh hmm I know beyond a shadow of doubt that all those Granspals you meet will be delightful. Take photos please.

rose I managed a naice gift shop in Fowey...could it be the one to which you are referring? I shall wait to hear further details from you.

Teetime am I missing somat!

Off to join MacS who is listening to a recording of the Proms...guess who is sat on his lap...wink Yep...yours truly, Rory MacSporran of Kintyre. Alpha cat extraordinaire. grin

ffinnochio Sun 28-Sept-14 17:54:38

Bella I'll keep my fingers crossed that you and Galen manage to meet. sunshine

I'm hoping (if travelling plans work out well) to meet some GN pals next Sunday in Edinburgh. I've never met any of them before, so it will be quite special, in ways that I cannot express here.

Bellasnana Sun 28-Sept-14 17:47:05

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. You have no idea how much it means to have such sympathetic pals. flowers

We (DH, DD2, DGD and myself) had a lovely day at the Air Show. The Red Arrows did not disappoint and even did two fly pasts with an Air Malta Airbus 320 which was a wonderful sight smile

We also had aerobatic teams from Italy and Spain who were pretty impressive, plus various other aircraft displays. The weather was a little cooler so that was a welcome relief.

DH is a bit subdued and wobbly - not surprising under the circs. but he sat in the shade and enjoyed his day.

I have every intention of meeting up with Galen and her visit is marked on my calendar. It would have to be a family emergency of mega proportions to keep me from the quayside to welcome her to Malta.

I agree with Lona that soop is the nicest person I've never met too, although there are some very kind and lovely pals in her kitchen. I'm grateful for you all. flowers

Teetime Sun 28-Sept-14 15:58:31

hello all I'm going to have a good catch up with the postings this week as I have been out of the loop for a few days. Had youngest DD this weekend and the nicest time we have had for a long while probably because SIL is more settled has a permanent contract and feeling more confident about his abilities as a Lecturer which is a bit different fom being buried in a research lab on his own for years. GS was adorable and we all had a nice time. Knackered now but a quick look showed me that bloody conversation about copraphilia is going on and on - CBA to read it all. Hope you are all well full of cake and whatever gets put in the teapot on a Sunday. xxxx

Charleygirl Sun 28-Sept-14 15:14:52

Bella I do hope that you are trying to look after yourself. You have had so much thrown at you recently and your poor DH is in no state to take it all either flowers

soop I am assuming that will mean more long drives if MacSporran is to have chemotherapy. You live in a lovely part of the country, that is one of the downsides, having to travel so far for medical/surgical care flowers.

This will make everybody laugh. I had an on line delivery yesterday from a well known supermarket beginning with S. They had run out of S unsalted butter- I could not believe it. Last month they had run out of Macleans toothpaste. I do not want a substitution because not so long ago instead of cat litter tray linings I was sent ladies panty liners. Tara was not too impressed and neither was I.

rosequartz Sun 28-Sept-14 13:28:12

soop I think it was a gift shop (a very naice one I would imagine!).

Now to remember their surname (will have to look in my Ancestry files, can remember their first names and her maiden name but not the married name)

Lona Sun 28-Sept-14 13:23:57

I agree when, I think soop is the nicest person I've never met!
smile

whenim64 Sun 28-Sept-14 13:17:56

What a wonderful role model you must be for your lovely family, soop. You show such compassion for others, whilst putting your best foot forward when life gets a bit rocky. flowers

soop Sun 28-Sept-14 13:06:21

First and foremost...dearest Bella I also want to hug you. You are in our thoughts and can be assured that this is where you'll remain. I really hope that Galen can meet you. She will make you smile. flowers
The Red Arrows used to fly low down the river Dart at regatta time. They certainly are impressive.

Secondly, I love you lot to bits. I am greatly cheered by all your comforting support. xxxx There really is no need to be concerned at this stage. MacS will get a diagnosis in due course and it will be from that moment that we shall deal with whatever comes our way. MacS isn't downcast. He's thankful that, at long last, his condition is not "all in the mind".

Purpledaffodil When you've mastered the iPad, could you please pop along and deal some extremely tiresome blips on this computer. I've spent an age trying to read the mail and being asked to identify myself...after shouting [a lot of profanities] I am convinced that there is a gremlin at work.

Crafting grin..."poop in" puts me in mind of the gendarme in 'Allo Allo' wink

rose what was the type of shop that a distant relative had in Fowey? I may know of it.

granjura...you, my dear, are one of us lot...as is anyone who calls in, no matter how infrequently. Eldest son lives near Clarendon Park in Leicester. Son number two lives in Oakham in Rutland. Son number three lives in Sussex. smile

I'm about to enjoy a smoked salmon and green salad lunch. An apricot flapjack would be a wonderful treat ...or warm scones with jam and a whole heap of cream...I can but dream. grin

I shall return.

dustyangel Sun 28-Sept-14 11:50:20

That coffee smells wonderful Lona. I just popped in to say I'm having Internet problems at the moment. I've made a couple of posts the last few days and they completely disappear. I thought it might be something I was doing but DH is having trouble as well and the provider says they are having problems at the moment. I shall keep looking in to make sure you are not eating all the cakes enjoying your selves.

Bella and soop thinking of you both. flowers flowers

Lona Sun 28-Sept-14 11:24:42

I thought I could smell coffee but it was wishful thinking!
It's made now though and there are some warm scones, jam and cream, as I know most of us like them. Help yourselves please smile

I'm just going to relax on the window seat and read the papers. Rory is purring, the sun is shining..................

Purpledaffodil Sat 27-Sept-14 22:17:21

I agree with you Crafting re the inclusivity of the kitchen. Such a warm welcome from those already by the fire.
My goodness, I have just upgraded my iPad to iOS 8 and there is a strange new bar along the top of the keyboard giving me text options. How very off putting Oh and it's got symbols too like an iPhone. Pass me a large drink please ladies, I am quite overwhelmed.
PS just previewed the message and the symbols come up as squares. Still have to faff around with square brackets then sad

Galen Sat 27-Sept-14 21:32:44

Bella really feel for you.
I do hope we can meet up and I can treat you both to a slap up meal!
My thoughts are very much with you.

moomin Sat 27-Sept-14 21:14:31

Bella, soop and MacSporran flowers for you, so sorry to hear the news from the kitchen. Life can be very unfair that is for sure.

Crafting Sat 27-Sept-14 21:03:25

Oh Bella what a lot you have to deal with and I expect you work overtime to keep everyone else's spirits up. Glad your DH is home again and hope you enjoy the red arrows.
Soop worrying news for you but good that Galen ,Marmight and Soutra are able to help with a more positive outlook. Hope all will be well. flowers for you and Bella
Galen hope you have a really good time on your cruise.
Welcome back Teetime. Like the name wink wink
Granjura you ought to pop in to the kitchen more often. I am a newish and it is obvious that many of the regulars in the kitchen know each other well but I have been made most welcome and find the kitchen a lovely supportive and humorous place to be ..... to say nothing of the plentiful wine and cupcake on offer grin.
Anya I have trouble with the ipad too. Poop in at any time grin

Marelli Sat 27-Sept-14 21:00:27

soop, DH and I are both sending our best wishes to MacSporran. As the others have been saying, take heart in the knowledge that there are so many successful treatments out there for this condition. Much love winging its way across to Kintyre. xx

kittylester Sat 27-Sept-14 20:56:06

Oh Bella that is so unfair! Big (((hugs))) and also for soop and MacS.

You know we are all here for you! flowers

ffinnochio Sat 27-Sept-14 18:35:57

Bella flowers, and I'll sit and keep you company with a glass of wine and here are bowls of humus and crisps to scoop and munch on.

Lona Sat 27-Sept-14 17:59:25

Bella flowers How much more will you have to bear sad

rosequartz Sat 27-Sept-14 17:51:02

Bella so sorry to hear your news about your SIL, it seems to have all come at once, so much to bear at the moment.
soop sorry too to hear the confirmation of MacS's condition; there is so much wonderful treatment available today, as Galen said people can live very useful and fulfilling lives with good treatment.

I like your new name Teetime, what you might call a double entendre - very clever!

A sort of distant relative of DH used to have a shop in Fowey many years ago, such a lovely place to visit.

flowers for the table for everyone to enjoy.
