IPad app recommendations for toddler

Well I will admit I am not very good with IT and will have to come into this century.

And given the choice on a long flight between sitting near a bored or fractious toddler and sitting near one engrossed in an iPad, I know which I'd prefer

Totally agree Petra. Four year old DGS has just started school and loves Cbeebies Number and Phonics games. I cannot imagine any of my DC settling down to do some more school type work at that stage, but he loves them and is learning at the same time. People probably worried when children 's books stopped being moral tomes. But everything moves on.

Although I will agree with petra that the DGC who loves the iPad is very advanced with his reading!

annsixty. Don't think about iPads in technology terms where small children are concerned. It's just another toy to them. All I do know is, the one GC who loves everything on line is far more advanced with reading than the one who couldn't care less about iPads.

Very sensible use when it is when such things are used as a babysitter as television is often utilised that concerns me.

Moderation in all things. My nearly 3-year old grandaughter's speech therapist recommended several apps to help her with widening her vocabulary by learning to associate spoken words, letters and pictures. Each time she succeeds she gets another few new words and pictures and she gets consistent, instant feedback when her practising pays off. Then, after half an hour, the iPad gets put down and she goes to another toy.

Am I the only one concerned about very young children being exposed to technology so young? Or am I just a dinosaur?

FindMe and BabyGames are good for toddlers. FindMe is a game in which the child touches the figure on the screen each time they appear in a different scene, and get rewarded with a 'well done' and music. BabyGames is a set of little scenes in which the child keeps tapping a colourful swinging egg to crack it and release a friendly little monster which 'yippees' or shouts funny 'noises' to make the child smile.

I Think a brilliant app is Tozzle. He may be a little young at 15 months but my 18 month old granddaughter loves it. It has different levels of puzzles, e.g. farm animals etc., that little fingers can drag and drop into the correct shapes. Good for teaching them at the same time!

Baby touch is good as well. There's two, one farm animals and one wild animals. They can be played by touching all the time or continually as a video (brilliant for when Graggy. Gets fed up)

No, just go to apps look for toddlers, there's loads.
Sound touch and music touch are still stern favourites with mine.
