I'm using this forum for theatre as I can't find anywhere else to put it. I see we have a forum for Arts and Crafts, but suggest that another forum for The Arts would fill a gap.
I'm going to see a production of Hamlet on Friday (at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre) in which Maxine Peake is playing the lead. A few months ago I also attended a production of Much Ado about Nothing in which a number of male parts were taken by women - very successfully, as the father's lines suited a mother's role and Dogberry and Verges clowned just as well as women. I wonder what other theatre-goers think about what appears to be a trend? I think I read somewhere about Waiting for Godot being played by women.
Do people still stamp their feet in anger?
