My daughter and family are doing it with their friends and work colleagues. I think it's a great idea and the look on some of their faces when they are being dunked gives everyone a good laugh.

Myself and all DC and DGC have done the challenge. We have raised quite a lot for MND and had a good laugh in the process.

Tesco are donating profits from the sale of ice!

It wasn't started to raise funds for ALS. The idea has been around longer but hadn't really caught on until US golfer Chris Kennedy did the challenge for ALS.

This article explains what happened on Colonsay. Maybe next time they'll use sea water, the numpties.

Anybody else heard that the island of Colonsay ran out of water because of the ice bucket challenge?

MND Scotland has had over £300,000 donated via ice bucket challenge already so it works!

Apparently it was started to raise money for ALS (motor neurone disease) and MacMillan sort of high jacked it.

I chickened out opted not to do the ice bucket bit and just donated.

I'm all for jt. Surely this is a 'fun' way to encourage charity fundraising which seems to attract/encourage everyone, and especially the younger generations, to donate to these wonderful, worthwhile causes. And if you don't feel inclined to get wet yourself, you can still donate ( simply text ICED55 followed by the amount you wish to donate, ie from £1 to £10 max) to 70070 and there is also the opportunity to gift-aid if you are a taxpayer. Sadly ALS/MND (motor neurone disease) diagnoses seems to be growing daily.

We all have good intentions but often never quite getting around to it. This is an easy and effortless way to donate a small amount. I tried it, why don't you? Incidentally if you wish to donate more, just go to the charity website.

14 members of my extended family have done it now and generosity is starting to dwindle, but they have raised about £800 in less than a week. Three children participated and none of them murmered about it being cold - they loved it! The tinies keep asking to watch the videos again. It was fun while it lasted

both my GS and sil did it in their garden. they said how about you Gran? at over 90 years old it would probably finish me off so no way but sent a donation to cancer research.

DD and DS have done it. I was expecting one of them to nominate me but I seem to have escaped ssssshhhh !!

I was going to decline as my dear sister had nominated me and I felt that it was just for her to show off (I am that mean) Anyway yesterday I heard that my latest CT scan (yearly now after 3 and half years of being cancer free) came back with the results - no problems identified., Clear. In my euphoria I told the FB World that I would take part in the challenge.

I apologise to my dear sister, I was an exhibitionist, not deliberately but I squealed like a pig and was so shocked at the gush of ice cold water running down my back. My video is on FB if anyone interested AND it is true: Being on film DOES put on 3 stone that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I would share on here but not sure how to transfer video onto Gransnet from my phone.

It's better than spending hundreds of pounds going somewhere exotic to raise fifty pounds for your charity.

Saw one on FB of a young woman seated and water chucked over her, the weight of the water caused her dress to drop and two boobs were exposed to her horror and the laughter of her companions, poor woman.

My wicked sister nominated me and I promptly refused. Then I had wonderful news from my Macmillian nurse today - by phone - that my scan on Friday last has come back with no problems detected. That's three and half years since I was diagnosed with Kidney cancer and had the offending organ removed. I feel ten years younger today so have decided that tomorrow my DH will douse me with ice cold water and I will nominate others to do the deed. Of course I will also donate to Macmillian.

Two DDs have done it but, to stop them in their evil tracks, I've donated some money to WaterAid!

Done it. Not an experience I'd wish to repeat but waving the flag for the over 65s at least. That said I probably got just as wet walking the dogs yesterday.
