What am I going to do about this weather??

I have a pulley , an airer, a twirly and a tumble dryer! The scouts would be proud of me bags

I have two pulleys. Use them all the time. Wet, cool weather is to be expected in Scotland and the Lake District. Anyone who goes camping in those places and doesn't expect it is being unrealistic. Surely everyone knows The Lake District has one of the highest rainfalls in the country?

I've woken up by Loch Morlich in August when there was frost on the outside of the tent. One has to "be prepared" as the scouts say.

Mind you, I used a pulley in Oxfordshire too. Installed it above the stairs. I could reach it to haul up and down and to hang things on from the landing. It was brilliant. Got the idea of the stairwell siting from my sister in Norfolk who had installed one in her small house (containing four kids) there.

Oh Jen I know how you are feeling...mine are camping too!

Alie mine is over the stairwell and can't be seen from downstairs. Unless there are very large items on it such as bath sheets.

We have our annual fete tomorrow here in the Thames Valley when it is forecast to rain heavily all day. Will just have to put on our raincoats and do the British thing of turning up regardless.

About the weather; my son and his family are camping in the lake district. I have just seen it is about 0 degrees where they are. I wonder if they'll pack up early tomorrow.

In the garage? That is where I had mine, until a mighty storm blew off the roof and it had to be redone. The pulley was missed out. I think I shall reinstate it.

I had a pulley in my last house....I still have all the parts but nowhere to put it! No ceiling high and out of the way.
Unless - sudden thought - over the stairs????

We haven't used our tumble dryer for such a long time,I have taken to using a clothes airer which just pulls up and takes up hardly any space,luckily enough I have a very good spin on my washing machine (1600) so things don't come out too wet I put things which need drying on the airer and place it in the space by my bedroom window which gets all the sun and most things dry in a few hours.
hildajenniJ can you not have a wirley type dryer fixed into the ground near your window for drying,so that it doesn't encroach onto neighbours part of the garden, just a thought.

In my last house we had a wonderful big conservatory, perfect for drying all the laundry. Now I can' t even have a washing line as we have shared access with our neighbours. I have a tumble drier, and things that can't be tumbled go over various radiators, and in my small sun room. I still yearn for a washing line though.

Would rather have my pulley than a tumble dryer. I too have lavender drying on it and the bed linen I took off yesterday smells wonderful.

I've got a hot porch... as opposed to a hot porsche. Dries the washing lovely.

My Southern friends have been known to mock my pulley citing it as evidence of my Northern (well Scottish) roots. Well, who's got the last laugh?

I am lucky enough to have a utility room with a pull out over head dryer and a spare room where I can put wet washing.
However if I did not have this space I would consider a tumbler dryer.
Although I would not use one otherwise. It must be very expensive to dry stuff from straight from the machine.

Being retired it is easier to keep an eye on the weather with stuff on the washing line.

In our last house I'd dry stuff in the sauna.

Gobble up the electric too Stansgran I ditched mine and my electric bill tumbled. Bought a pulley and I can put clothes on it in the afternoon if they've not dried outside and they're bone dry come morning. Using it to hang and dry my lavender at the moment so doubly useful and the house smells wonderful.

Tumble dryers anyone? Worth their weight in gold.

Imagine how much more difficult it is when you have to go out to work ladies!

I start by googling the forecast (if you can believe that) and then try to judge what time the rain will hit and will I be home in time, otherwise the washing will be wetter than it was when I put it out, or worse not even there. Living so close to the North East coast we don't half get battered.

Yes, we do have a greenhouse NanKate. Unfortunately it is missing most of its glass, which makes it less than ideal for being a greenhouse, let alone for drying washing! Thanks - glad you liked the poem.

Anyone living down in the south should be ok with the weather this weekend just the chance of a shower on Monday.

I don't suppose your have a greenhouse, we have one that we use as a sun room, just enough for two comfy seats and small table for our coffee. Well it gets very hot in there and so the room doubles up as a drying area. I put the clothes on the clothes horse or I stretch large sheets over the two chairs and they dry a treat.

Its a fab word sue and I have been blizzarded twice to-day when trying to get my shopping from the trolley to the car & from the car to the house,have given up with the laundry it can wait and see what to-morrow brings

we're ff to Norfolk on Sunday and its going to precipitate as hard as it can all the time I think. Last time we went Easter 2013 it snowed and blizzarded (not a word but it did).
