Super moon

Neither did I even though the sky was clear. [although I wasn't able to put an hour aside to concentrate properly]. If it's still clear tonight I'm going to sit in the car and watch. Once you start to see the shooting stars they seem to be everywhere.

Oh I see Flickety. Perhaps it was a full moon on a clear night you saw but the super moon I saw on Sunday night was as bright as the sun and absolutely huge. I love looking at the moon (lunatic?) but that was the best I personally have ever seen it. It was not as big or as bright last night but still worth a viewing!

Didn't manage to see the meteor shower though.

Gagagran Earlier this year I can remember being woken by the moon, which was so bright I got up and went downstairs because I thought I had left an outside light on. It was so bright I had difficulty looking at it.

I agree that currently the moon is closer to the earth than it has been for 20 years but it doesn't mean that for atmospheric or other reasons a moon further away shouldn't have shone more brightly - and I assume that that is what happened.

Always loved that poem and it seems particularly apt for this beautiful super moon we have been lucky to see.

Just joined this thread this morning, and I was one of the lucky ones who had a lovely clear view of the moon. Full moon time is when I am awake most of the night, no idea why, but I always know when there is a full moon because I can't sleep (unusual for me). Normally I get up and wander round the house, and if it is not cloudy, the moon throws its light through the windows, which I find quite peaceful somehow.

Yes. It is getting to look like a proper harvest moon now.

I've definitely seen the moon look bigger, but apparently that's to do with magnification. Or something.

Can't see any stars, though . Not sure if it's cloudy. It is orange, isn't it. Harvest moons always make me think of holidays in Cornwall for some reason.

Yes Tegan I hope to but like you, we have a lot of thick, dark cloud around so I'm not hopeful.

It was cloudy when we went to bed so didn't see it low in the sky, but I woke in the early hours and saw it, very bright and looking large!

Are you going to look out for the meteor shower tonight Gagagran? Although there's a lot of cloud around at the moment; still two more nights to go,though if tonight is no good.

According to the news Flickety this is the nearest the moon has been for 20 years so when did you see better?

I have seen better within the last six months.

Here I am Jings. Had to go to for a shingles immunisation jab and also had a pneumonia one in the other arm, whilst I was there.

Well it looked very big and very low to us. ( Did you have your specs on?) I saw on another site that it's due again on 9 September so must make a note to look again then.

Yes, I saw it. As I said on the other thread I did n't think it was that big. Very bright though.
