Coolgran, I found out yesterday how easy it is to loose your footing coming down stairs. Didn't bother to put shoes or slippers on, only socks, but even though I was holding on to the banisters, I slipped and ski- ied down the stairs on my back. Got to the bottom and a bit surprised and shaken, shouted for OH, he is hard of hearing and all I got when I staggered in to the kitchen was a smile and are you alright - he hadn't heard any bumping or shouting. Anyway, back is ok but a bit sore. I'll wear my shoes in future! Hope you are feeling better.

Yesterday was going just nicely. DH and I went out for breakfast. He then set off for his lawn bowls and I was going to do a little me shopping.

I went out the back door, toe caught on the strip across the bottom of the door frame, I fell down two steps and couldn't get up for a few minutes. Oh, the pain. Made my way back in, hole in trousers at left knee and a big graze that was bleeding. Worse, I couldn/t take any weight on my left leg. My hip, knee and ankle were agony.
Eventually I got a bucket of water and sluiced my knee, when hubby came home I was taping a hankie to my knee with micropore with tears tripping me. 6 hours after the fall I was still in agony so we asked DDIL to come over, she only lives a 5 minute drive, she is a nurse. Having been checked over she said all seemed to be soft tissue but go get xray done. Off to A & E, got a drip for pain, xrays, all ok. and sent home with pain relief. That took 5 hours but staff were lovely and very kind.
I am still so sore. DH made Sunday dinner for guests and guests helped clear up afterwards.
I was very afraid at xray that my hip could be broken but it's ok.
Let's hope all is well settled before holidays in one month.

However, I was so sore that I went in my (very old but comfy) slippers. Lying flat on the trolley I suddenly remembered that there were holes in the soles and they were exposed to everyone, and had to call DH to quickly take them off and put them into his pockets !!

Not so far off the mark, Nonu. We had our one acre field grassed this year and now it's established and looking good I'm thinking small glampsite??

DH thinks I'm bonkers but I fancy a couple of vintage caravans for starters and then we can also use the big one when DD moves out. hmm

Nonu Sun 10-Aug-14 13:39:09

I thought she had opened up a B/B to make a little money on the side!

"Mexican terrorists" grin DH wants to know why I'm chuckling.

merlotgran Sun 10-Aug-14 12:11:10

Thanks for your good wishes. Back still yanging today but moving around is better than sitting still.

DD's chihuahuas are as good as gold for me but they're not too sure about DH - must be his large feet and LOUD voice.

DD and the boys, as you probably already know, are living in a large static caravan at the bottom of the garden while we do a building conversion. DH offered to put the Mexican terrorists to bed in their crates last night so I wouldn't have to go outside. After ten minutes he came back in,

'You'll have to do it. The little b*****ds are hiding under the caravan and won't come out!'

The minute they heard me staggering down the path they dashed out, tails wagging and put themselves to bed! grin

There's not a day goes by where they don't make me laugh. They are such cheeky characters.

I know I shouldn't Merlot as you are in pain but your post made me LOL as it's just the kind of text we'd get too. Get well soon.

Are you alright merlot? flowers wine

The dogs can look after themselves !

merlotgran Sat 09-Aug-14 23:20:57

An old back problem decided to make its presence felt yesterday and so I've been really under the weather today. DH has done a great job making sure I do absolutely nothing which has been such a welcome break. DD is on holiday in Greece with her OH and heard on the grapevine (fb) that I'm laid up.

I had a message from her this morning......'Are the DOGS alright?' hmm

Annaries Sat 09-Aug-14 22:47:10

Wouldn't you wonder what was wrong and why they were ignoring you, Deeda?

Deedaa Sat 09-Aug-14 22:37:40

I'm not even going to go into the car thing because we seem to have bought more cars for DS than we've had ourselves.

This week DD and her family have been on holiday in Portugal - out of sight and out of mind except for feeding her cat. I was looking forward to a relatively peaceful week with no emergencies. Well apart from a fraught evening baby sitting screaming GS3, Mad scramble to find a spare monitor for DS when his blew up, and tonight toothache crisis with DS's partner who seems to have an infection after an extraction. DS at work so I had lots of on line searches for emergency dentists, phone calls to NHS direct and texting DS to try and find a painkiller that wouldn't make her throw up!

All I want is ONE WEEK with no sudden phone calls starting "Would you be able to....?"

ninathenana Sat 09-Aug-14 20:49:42

P.S. I bought the ruddy car too !!

ninathenana Sat 09-Aug-14 20:47:45

Ana I suppose it does. Maybe it's because we've helped her so much that I feel the small gesture of providing food for her children isn't too much to expect.

Kiora Sat 09-Aug-14 20:42:18

ninathenana I have been bailing my daughter out periodically for 18+ years. She doesn't take advantage she has just made 2 terrible decisions and she has two children. She is always very grateful. What options do we have. There is no one else she can turn to. I think she has turned a corner now. So perhaps it's been worth it. (Fingers crossed) we have to take the rough with the smooth were our grown up children are concerned. It's easy to be there when things are going well. It's more important to be there when our children are in trouble. However I do understand your frustrations. I often felt the same. flowers for you and your girl. She's lucky to have you and I'm sure she appreciates it

Nonu Sat 09-Aug-14 20:18:00

All I can say is [ hmm] perhaps you are too good to her for her own good !

Ana Sat 09-Aug-14 20:17:53

The dilemma about the DGC's food supplies quite pales into insignificance, doesn't it? confused

ninathenana Sat 09-Aug-14 20:13:58

DH and I went shopping in our nearest large town today. I bought a lovely outfit for a wedding we're invited to. DH got shoes for said wedding and we bought a few other bits. We had a nice lunch and congratulated ourselves on a good day. Got home and had a phone call from DD to say her car won't start. So after lending her 3/4 of her rent today because IT hasn't given her any maintenance. I now need to pay to get her car fixed. Oh well, it was good while it lasted smile
