Anyone just heard Mahler 5?

Mishap Thanks for prompting me to re-visit Mahler. As henetha, I love Symphony No. 5. IV Adagietto - particularly Bernstein's interpretation. Superb.

I just think the proms are the biggest treat ever! - an orchestra in my living room!

I have very wide taste in music and always listen to them, even if I am not sure it will be my cup of tea - I have learned a lot this way and found music that I would otherwise have missed.

20th century English music is my great love - Finzi, Vaughan Williams, Britten, Maxwell Davies, Warlock - love them all, and prefer to Beethoven! I love to hear newly composed pieces - some I like and some I don't, but it is all exciting stuff.

I love the Adagieto from Mahler's 5th Symphony in a favourite film of mine,
Death in Venice. If ever music is in perfect harmony with film, it is in this one. It is so utterly moving that it wrings my heart every time.

I look every evening to see what's on that day's Prom and there are not many I want to hear. Don't like Mahler, don't like most of 20th century music (or art or architecture)
I listen to Radio 3 every day and I know new music must be encouraged but I don't want to listen to it.

I did hear a bit but Mahler is not my cup of tea. Whenever there is any Mahler on Classic FM one of us just has to say 'Wouldn't you just die without Mahler' anyone recognise that?

Sorry no, but I did really enjoy John Wilson's orchestra and singers performing 'Kiss me Kate' from the proms last Saturday. ( I do like Mahler's music too)
