The £2 bag I bought contained an amazing amount of toffee, I thought I was a pig eating it over 3 nights!
Joelise My Mother made the same toffee, and the treacle hard toffee was called Plot Toffee and you ate it on Bonfire Night.
I think Thorntons is hard to beat, and they do a great licorice toffee too according to friends. May have to do some research on flavours [it's a hard job, but someone has to do it.]

A bag of Thorntons toffee would be lucky to last an evening here! Years ago, on Rochdale market, there was a man who shouted out, all day, "HOMEMADE TOFFEE!" He had a very loud voice, but his toffee was to die for.

My mother used to make a yummy soft toffee with condensed milk & on bonfire night she made a hard toffe with dark treacle, I can taste them now !

By the way, the toffee was yummy also. Little peices, individually wrapped

Has anyone visited the Lake District and tried the Penrith Toffee Shop fudge? A little shop in Brampton, where I used to live, stocked it. I used to treat myself occasionally, the DC never new where I hid it. I don't think that shop is there anymore and Penrith is too far away just to go for fudge.

In Sainsbury's for £1 they sell the equivalent of After Eights They are delicious and won't break your teeth. Even better if you put them in the freezer, that makes them last longer.

One toffee I used to get sometime back was Harrogate Toffee

My Scottish grandpa also used to make toffee - he called it Russian toffee and it was very dark but it wasn't treacle toffee. Anybody know what it was? The hammer bit was great because we children used to get the little splintery bits.

I worked out that the sugared almond cost me about £2000 all told.!

I love Brazil Nut toffee and used to buy it by the box. Sadly one Xmas another favourite Sugared almonds were responsible for me breaking a tooth and a succession of very expensive dentistry. The dentist who did the work swore me off toffee because of the suction effect it can have on caps and I really don't want to have or pay for any more work. Enjoy your toffee - I'm on the soft stuff.

Don't like this thread, far too tempting. Will stay away from the shops until the craving wears off! Can't have nice things in the house or I eat them

Does anyone remember Riley's chocolate toffee rolls? They were delicious and the toffee was a bit kinder to fillings as it wasn't as hard as Thornton's.

Did you really mean a few 'evenings' roses? I'm sure that if I dared to buy something like that (can't afford the dentist's bill, so won't) it would be eaten in a few minutes!

I wish I hadn't read that. Now longing for chocolate coated brazil nuts.
