Don't you think, sunseeker that you were the one appropriately dressed and that the 'posh' ladies were over-dressed?

A man came to read the electricity meter this morning. Haven't seen one of those in ages. I was sitting in my pyjamas with a big mug of tea, checking into Gransnet when I heard a timid knock on the door. Thinking it was DGS2 asking for a lift to the village I flung open the door and said, in my cheerful granny voice, 'You don't have to knock. You can just come in!' blush tbblush tbbiscuit

Be yourself: people who mind don't matter; people who matter won't mind.

Good motto. Give it a go! smile

I have a sister who is a flight attendant (actually I have three sisters who are grin ) and therefore has to look well groomed most of the time, but when she isn't working she looks like a bag lady and doesn't care a jot who sees her. I actually find her attitude very reassuring.
sunseeker I never think twice about going out in my 'scruffs' with no make up on and as a consequence I often receive lots of positive comments when I do look as though I've made an effort. smile

I know that I put the fear of God (or something, anyway) into the young postie this morning, anyway. I always just tie my hair in on the top of my head at bedtime, so that it doesn't strangle me during the night. This morning, I forgot to undo it after I got dressed (possible senior moment). When the postie came to the door I dragged the band out of my hair, opened the door and grinned amiably at him.....he looked horrified. shock! I realised that my wild white hair surrounding a rather weary-looking, grinning face might not be the ideal way to greet anyone at the door. blush

It doesn't have to be 'posh' people - just anyone you'd rather not be seen by when you're not feeling your best, e.g. an ex, a gossipy former neighbour, that bloke you've fancied for ages...(that was in a former life, of course! wink)

sunseeker that could be me I wrestle with myself should I just nip round the corner it will be early and nobody will see me and Sods Law I run into someone - will I never learn

Tegan Wed 23-Jul-14 18:24:49

If I'm in my scruffy clothes [which is most of the time] and wearing no make up I feel invisible anyway so it always surprises me when someone says hello to me [especially if it's someone I haven't seen for years either].Years ago I had a pair of green combat type trousers and whenever I bumped into a lady from the next village who was uber sophisticated I was always wearing those trousers blush.

Why would anybody "dress up" to go to an animal sanctuary? I have this eonferful mental picture of Hyacinth Bucket types in their "riding" pearls!!! grin

Ana Wed 23-Jul-14 17:55:12

Bags, sadly we don't all possess your innate self-confidence - we do care! And yes, it is Sod's Law... sad

thatbags Wed 23-Jul-14 17:50:02

The simple answer to your query is Sod's Law.

kittylester Wed 23-Jul-14 17:49:53

Sod's law!! sunseeker

thatbags Wed 23-Jul-14 17:49:30

Why do you care?

I dislike ostensible poshness much more than normal workaday scruffiness.

Following yet another problem in the house (don't ask!) I have been energised to start sorting out the two rooms which have become "dumping grounds". This resulted in 2 bags to go to the animal sanctuary (old sheets and blankets), 3 bags and 2 boxes to the charity shop and 5 bags to the recycling centre. I decided the deliver the bags to the animal sanctuary and as it is just a 5 minute drive from where I live didn't bother to change from the old scruffy clothes I wore to sort out the rooms (normally I would never leave the house dressed like that). As my luck would have it as I drove into the yard of the sanctuary there were 2 of the poshest ladies in the village just getting out of a car!! So why is it when I am all dressed up I never see anyone - but go out looking like a scarecrow and its like a meeting of the Mothers Union!!
