Phew! It has been a stressful 24 hours so I am ready to flop on the chaise longue.

As I had mentioned, DH wasn't supposed to be coming home from hospital until today so I volunteered to babysit a friend's four year old daughter overnight so they could have a night out last night.

DH phoned yesterday lunch time to say they had made a mistake and could I go and fetch him, which I duly did, so he came home yesterday after all.

Not feeling I could let the friend down at the eleventh hour, little four year old treasure arrived around 5pm. She seemed a bit off colour and after a short while was spectacularly sick all over the kitchen floor. So it has been a long night and day looking after a very poorly little girl. Her parents didn't seem too concerned and have only just picked her up, bless her. Now I am just hoping it is nothing infectious as that is all DH needs

Roll on 6pm - I really have earned my today

AlieO I'm very sorry that your neighbour problems are still on-going. You deserve so much better.

Well now, you lot must be the busiest of folk anywhere on the planet. All that gardening, growing, cooking of delicious food and such has made me feel very lazy laid-back. I think that you are all marvellous for a multitude of reasons.

It's very damp and so much cooler here in bonnie Kintyre. Rory misses the sunshine. He sprinted strolled to the door, peered out and made a snap decision to stay indoors. He's been asleep all morning. It really is a tough life for our big, black, retired ex-feral pussy cat.

As for the weeny mouse that Rory introduced to us yesterday...we have no idea where it is. I suppose that it could have dashed to safety when we were otherwise engaged. However, MacS was concerned for it's welfare at bedtime. He left a cube of bread [smeared with peanut butter] on a saucer together with another saucer of water out for the mouse. It hasn't been touched.

Just off to make a zucchini slice - savoury but without a pastry shell. I have eaten it before but never made one.

roses I have a struggle getting onto long threads or posting when on my tab, but OK on the old PC.

I think I might have submitted a recipe for a courgette cake at one time. It has a lovely moist - but not soggy - texture.

I love courgettes, and it makes sense to grow them because they are always expensive to buy.I must grow some next year, also cucumbers, so lovely when fresh.
I don't come into the kitchen here often because it takes so long to get onto this thread [my old computer maybe.]

So far I have achieved one cucumber, 2cm thick and 39cm long.....a striped one. Haven't grown these before. There are several small ones coming, and they start off furry!
I have a large twisted black courgette (?marrow) and I think as soon as it does rain (please!) I will have a lot more!

Alie, we have no cucumbers at all this year, two lots of seeds failed to germinate. However, lots of courgettes and the baby pumpkins look as if they are growing nicely.

MiceElf you have TWO bottles of Madeira from two years ago I love Maderia with fillet steak. It wouldn't have lasted two years in our house! Mind you I am not at all jealous of your wonderful meal tonight because we are having ........ cold chicken (no sauce) plain boiled pots and veg. Followed by fruit ( oh the joys of heart problems and a low cholesterol diet )

Kittylester mind if I join you in the corner and drool over MiceElf's gourmet meal and sip some of your delicious ginger beer (come on budge up)

The police have warned them - but the law as it is at present doesn't cover getting bitten at their front door - however they have been forced to actually start putting up a proper fence.....
I was at their front door to tell them to get the dog out of my back garden.....it just rushed out and bit me.

Alie if the dogs bit you, they are very fortunate to still have the dogs!

I had that problem of many male flowers with my cucumbers, looked it up and it is something to do with the heat....I put them on the floor and turned on a fan to keep them a bit cooler and they have improved a lot.

The people at No. 10 with the big dogs are not speaking to me since I got bitten....how childish.

Well, I just don't know where to start with all this food! Perhaps a rhubarb and ginger flapjack would be lovely with a .

We have loads of courgettes and I have just printed off a recipe for a 'zucchini slice' which DD1 makes sometimes, so I was thinking of making it shortly. No pastry, so quite virtuous.

However, having read some of the delicious-sounding recipes above zucchini slice sounds a bit unambitious!

I can hardly believe that the kitchen has been riotously busy since I last popped in. It's going to take me a very long time to read your many messages. Best if I do so at coffee time tomorrow. xxx

Rory can tell the time. He's giving me that certain look that yells...get a move on missus...I'm faint for lack of nourishment!

Oh my mouth is watering with all this talk of food. MiceElf your meal sound divine! I have never tried samphire before and noticed it in Waitrose last week and was very tempted to buy it. My cousin has given me a rainbow trout which he caught yesterday so I am going to nip out and buy some samphire.

Also love rhubarb and ginger jam and will try this mix for flapjacks. I'll pay attention to the quantity of rhubarb When

When GDs are staying Kitty there are times when I only relax at dinner time knowing it is almost their bedtime! . Terrible Granny that I am!

They're all male, then, MiceElf - you might as well enjoy them if they're not going to turn into courgettes.
