Soops kitcheners

...after which I shall pedal away furiously on the exercise bike. First things first...of to hang the washing on the line.

Yummy...my tummy is rumbling. Warm pesto rolls and toasted ciabatta...marrow and courgette chutney...Bread and Butter Pickle...bring them on. I shall devote some time to tasting all your offerings.

Anyone remember the old fashioned Bread and Butter Pickle? Made 7 jars this morning so here's another jar for the pickle/chutney tasting Kitcheners.

I've never made marrow chutney before. DH loved the version his mother made. He doesn't know the recipe so I found one online which he thought sounded similar.We'll see what it' s like in four weeks time when it's matured.

You lot are making me feel very hungry!!!

Ooh, that chutney sounds good. My friends courgette chutney goes really well on toasted ciabatta, spread with the chutney then covered in Brie which is melted under the grill. Very more-ish!

Pesto rolls sound lovely whenim64 do you think they'd go well with the 11 jars of marrow chutney I've been busy making this morning? soop the veiw sounds lovely, I long to be beside the sea. My DD and family live on the Rosneath peninsular. The veiw there is fabulous.

I'm just catching up with all the news and am sorry to learn that MacS is having more tests and consultations. soop my dad had similar health issues, some discovered a year or so on after other things were eliminated, and which he still had years later. I guess that now they would have been treated - such clever medics and treatments these days - but they didn't give him much trouble at the time. I hope MacS soon starts feeling much better.

Isn't it good to watch a calm sea and enjoy the air and scenery? I haven't been near the sea for a few weeks and now I feel the urge to get myself to the coast and enjoy just being there.

I've been baking this morning. Pesto rolls, still warm, so tuck in everyone. Perfect with a good cup of coffee.

mrshat Thank you. It isn't difficult to remain positive now that we have some idea of what it is that has disrupted MacS's life just recently. The consultant asked if I was in the waiting room because, if so, he would have liked me to sit in and hear all that he had to say regarding what was to be done next. Anyway, when the results of the scan provide him with further info' he wishes me to be included in the consultation.

Charleygirl Yes, I am now driving regularly. I enjoy it very much. Although the drive between here and Oban is along a very winding road.

Lona your meat pie must be delicious. My mother made a super steak and kidney pudding...took forever to simmer in the steamer.

Galen I am hurt to think that you thought that any of us would stray from the straight and narrow, we are model kitcheners.

Bella I quite fancy some of the hot weather that you are enduring in Malta! It is raining here and not very warm.

soop I can picture Rory waiting for his portion of chicken and possibly almost getting his nose burnt in the process. Tara is not allowed any treats, she has to stick with Z/D dry food but that does not stop her licking a plate- she likes curry and cerreals of all things. She has a sweet tooth so I have to be careful. She is resting on my bed having been disappointed that I was not going to bed at 17.00 hours- I was only putting clothes away.

Fit or not, that is a fair drive to your "local." I do not envy you the trip- I hope that you both drive. London does have some plus points.

Hope it stays fine tomorrow am as it's archery followed by darling daughter and DGDs coming. Won't be on here much for the next couple of days.

DiL has popped over to France to collect my dgs from his extended holiday.

MacS smiled when I passed on your kind messages. He is very fond of his Granspals... He slept well last night and I awoke at 3am and found it very difficult to empty my mind of all manner of "stuff"...
Have spoken to my lovely three sons today. A chat with each one of them is a big treat and my spirits were lifted.

Charleygirl Oban hospital is a two and a half hour journey from home. We shall get some help with the travel expenses.

Galen Good for you. Go for it...which is exactly what you've been and done. I admire your spirit.

Bella An ulcer in the mouth can be unbearably painful. Several must be agonising. Your husband can well do without this latest problem. Difflam is about the best product for easing his painful mouth. I would like just a wee amount of your hot sunshine, please. It is cool here today. Apparently the temp is set to plummet to zero tonight.

I wish every one of our Kitcheners a pleasant weekend. Rory is counting the hours to chicken coming out of the oven time. Best to sit and wait with hours to spare. He wouldn't wish to miss the best bit of the week.

Bella DH prescribed Difflam for DD1 when she had stress mouth ulcers. It's reckoned to be the best. Changing his toothpaste to one without CFCs (I think) might help. They are available from health food stores and are less aggravating.. I'll check out the brand name later and come back. A mouth full of ulcers must be dreadful.

soop please give MacS my best wishes and give him an extra hug from me.

soop I'm so sorry to hear the latest news on MacS's health. At least now he will be properly investigated and treated. I'm sending best wishes and hugs to both of you.

Bella I'm not surprised your husband is feeling down, but knowing that it's natural doesn't help much. When I had a spell of bad mouth ulcers I found that mouth wash (For me it was Oraldene, it has a different name here maybe also in Malta.) diluted with boiled water so that it was a pale pink, really helped. You wouldn't think it would at that dilution but it does and because it doesn't hurt you are willing to use it more frequently.
I've just seen your latest post and seen that he has a mouth wash prescribed already sorry,

Got DGDs coming tomorrow and as darling daughter reckons the tiddler is sensitive to dairy on her (darling daughter's) diet (she is still breast feeding both!) I'm trying to bake a dairy free banana cake. I've substituted Pure margarine for the butter and almond milk for the milk.

bella do something like minestrone (or mine strone as the Wednesbury waitress used to call it!) the small pasta in it will give some protein.

I'm coming in to cool down. Just been up to hang DS's chef's whites on the roof to dry and the heat up there is unbearable. Phew! We were supposed to be in the cooler climes of Kent with my sister for the month of August but fate had other plans for us, unfortunately.

Thank you for the advice, hugs and messages for DH. He is feeling a little better today. The mouthwash is called Difflam, and rinsing his mouth with soluble aspirin has eased the pain somewhat. We asked about lozenges but they are not available here.

Galen I shall be making some soup later as it does seem the best thing for him. I'm not a great fan of cooking, especially in this heat, but soup is something I am quite good at. My soups never turn out the same as it depends what's hanging around in the fridge

Bellasnana, I think the mouthwash was what Galen mentioned, Corsodyl, and also an anti-fungal suspension for the mouth called Nystatin. It is an unfortunate side-effect and mouth ulcers will make him feel more miserable just when he needs good nourishing food, but good soups (supplemented with protein powder as Galen suggested), good purees, custards, bananas and avocados (a good thing that he likes them) will all help him to keep his strength up.

'Cheers' to you, soop and MacS (or 'Cheese' as DGD1 used to say as she lifted her sipper cup of water to clash with our wine glasses) and hope a wee dram cheers him up.

A bit chillier here for the Bank Holiday weekend but the sun keeps peeping out from behind the clouds trying to make an appearance.

I hope everyone has a good weekend despite their problems; relaxing (or doing whatever you most enjoy).

I agree Agus they are obviously more up to date re latest drug treatments than the local GP.

Bella I do hope that he is getting some relief as something like that can make his life totally miserable.

Poor McSporran he's had a rotten time this summer with one thing and another. Please give him my best wishes for a speedy recovery from this latest bout of ill health he's having to contend with.

Sorry to hear too Bella your poor DH is having to suffer more discomfort. One mouth ulcer is painful enough to deal with but what he is going through must be unbearable. As pharmacists are more up to date on new drugs, I wonder if it would be worthwhile asking for their advice re something more effective for DH, obviously explaining his medical history. Just a thought and it might be worth asking.

I know just what you mean soop. I would not allow Tara to go out as it is close to bedtime so she has gone to bed to sulk, having slept for most of the day. She will creep into my room after i have had a shower and got myself settled. Little stops her coming for her cuddles before sleep.

Such a pity that hospitals and supermarkets are such a trek- I suppose that you cannot have fabulous views as well as what I take for granted. Mine are within 2 miles away.

Hugs to MacS as well as Rory. We must not forget that poor neglected half starved soul. It is a disgrace if his supper is 10 minutes late- what else have you to do but look after him?

Sleep well, you have both had a busy, traumatic day, especially at the supermarket!!

Soop and hugs for you too. Hope the scan results come back ok. When you said MacS was in good spirits did you mean immersed in whisky . Have a large wee dram if there is such a thing. Well done to your granddaughter.
