Take 2 started 2.15 All was fine for an hour but then first one boy woke up then the other. Thry have cuddled up together, and now swapped beds- it will end in tears but I am trying to keep calm and breathe....

as you were! Everything has slowed down again and although DD is having quite severe contractions they are now only every 8 minutes so they have come home again

Just a heads up that DD and SIL have left for the hospital contractions about 6 minutes apart. I was up for a couple of days to help with the boys and had planned to go home this morning but mild contractions started last night and this morning were 30 minutes apart. My baby girl- I am feeling excited, nervous and emotional in equal measure.

Dearest soop you are not alone! My DH bought me an iPhone and I was horrified It has far too many bits and pieces on it which I do not understand and have no wish to use. When DH tells me to put appointments and such 'on your phone' I tell him I prefer to write it on the calendar thank you

I also prefer to buy top up cards (or top it up on the Internet) rather than have a 'contract' which just means yet another bill coming in. Like you, I just want it to be able to send text messages, make an occasional phone call, receive same, and take photos with it.

I don't know about you, but my children cannot understand why I am not surgically attached to my phone and may not read a message for a day or two after it has arrived

Have just had friend's little girl staying overnight and am missing her now she has gone home, even though she has worn me out! Good practice for next week when dearly beloved granddaughter and her mum arrive from the US for four months stay!

Thank you Elegran and janeainsworth We would prefer pay as you go. We've have been bowled over by the amount of technology that some folk are very familiar with. It's all new territory to the likes of MacS and me. My present phone cost no more than £20 (which I thought was about right at the time!) I have only just realised that it has umpteen other things going for it, such as a flashlight, alarm/calendar and calculator and convertor and other such stuff that I do not wish to use [just as well, I imagine] as I'm not at all worldly and "with it". I only ever use my phone to text, receive messages and call my friends and family. A top up of £20 lasts for yonks. So, as you lot can see, I'm trailing way behind the rest of the gang. I really would like to be able to stay in touch with you lot when I'm away from home. If the new phone can take photos...WOWEEE... that would be the cherry on the cake. I'm about to log off now but will return tomorrow to read your agog reactions to my inability to catch up with stuff that even our four year old grandson finds easy-peasy-pie. xxx

With the iPhone it's yours after the 2 years elegran, I don't know about other makes but would imagine it's the same.
I've just generously donated my old iPhone 3 to MrA and he will get a cheap SIM card to use it in the States.

Is it yours after 2 years, Jane ? i thought it was just on loan. If I lose it or smash it they will charge me £300 to replace it! The Carphone Warehouse would have liked me to take out insurance at £9.50 a month (only £7.50 for the phone!! needless to say I did not, I am just fairly careful with it.)

If you go into Carphone Warehouse or Phones 4U the young people who work there will be very pleasant and helpful

It is nothing to buy, you don't own it, you have to hand it back after the two years are up. They hope that by then you will want to have the latest version with all the bells and whistles. There are already half a dozen newer Nokia models out which do everything except make the tea.

I got this one because DD2 and SiL (and DGS1) all have a slightly newer model and I liked it when I had a shot with it. The 520 did enough for me, but the family are into having everything faster and glossier etc, but I am not. It is very good for texting and emailing, and it has things like a notebook where you can make a shopping list and so on.

I don't use the internet part very much, except for getting bus times and the weather. The screen is not all that big. My tariff is with Talkmobile, and gets me 100 minutes of phone calls, 5000 texts (!! I could be texting all day) and 250 megabytes of internet. I have nothing to compare it with, but it works OK for me.

You don't buy the phone as such Soop.
You sign up to a monthly payment for 24 months usually and the monthly payment includes the cost of the phone so at the end of that time the phone is yours.

I don't have an iphone, but I have a Nokia 520, a Windows 8 phone, which costs me £7.50 month from the Carphone Warehouse on a two-year contract (their cheapest now seems to be £8.50 a month). It takes good pictures, it is straightforward to use, and you can get onto the internet with it. It has all kinds of applications, a lot of which are free and even the ones you pay for are only a few pounds. I am very happy with it.

You are all most kind and thoughtful. We have a budget of approx. £75 which I'm certain is well below what the iPhone 5 costs. Does anyone have a bog-standard iPhone that takes good quality photos which can be shared on the net? I do not need games and suchlike. If, when I'm away, I can link up with my kitcheners that would be a huge bonus. I understand that you get what you pay for...however, someone, somewhere has an affordable model...I shall surf the net and see what the likes of Which magazine favours.

Agus the weather here today is on the wet and blustery side. Your posties would have goose bumps all over their gorgeous bare legs if they had to deliver to our home.

Can't believe how fast it is compared to my old iphone3.

I have the iPhone 4 and it's great for photos, facetime with my dgd, GN and FBook,a sat nav app and lots of other useful stuff.

You can get GN on it as well

I have an iPhone 5 too soop. It does take very clear pics. It also has a function called FaceTime which allows me to have a video link with others who have FaceTime which I ocassionally use with DD in Australia.

We have a post box near our house so two posties arrive, one to empty box and our postie

I love my iphone5 it's very easy to use. My iPhone4 was good as well, I gave that to DARLING DAUGHTER who also loves it! The camera is extremely good. It's easy to download. Most of my pics are taken with it, although I do use my Canon bridge camera for more difficult shots.
