Loos for whoever

Men have a habit of missing the toilet sometimes and getting it on the floor (hence the use of a urinal instead); not sure I'd like to use toilets with a sprinkle of tinkle around the base!

Understand the frustration though as I'm now disabled and at times a wheelchair user.

Sometimes disabled loos are locked because they can be used for other purposes.
I used to work in a highly respected dept store. After staff finding needles, many times, (in the baby changing room too!) and interrupting a couple having sex there was not much choice but to lock them. Even if they are, were checked regularly it was too risky to leave them unlocked. The key was kept at a checkout literally a couple of feet away.
This was in a quiet part of the UK and nearly fifteen years ago so how much of a problem it is now...?

Thanks for the info. Hunt.

My experiences with mum were quite some years ago, when councils were only just becoming enlightened about the needs of those with disability.

Anyone can get a Radar Key which opens the disabled loo. Just google Radar key.

Humour by-pass hmm

Bags chill out and don't be so touchy.....I was joking. You can google the term if you don't know it.

Very badly Flickety very badly. grin

Have you noticed how small some ordinary toilet cubicles have become? In several I have been in recently the inward opening door has nearly touched the loo itself. I am a comfortable size 14, and can just about manage but how anyone anyone larger copes in these loos I do not know.

DebnCreme Sat 24-May-14 08:52:57

Since having my hip replaced I find 'normal' loos in service areas and shopping precincts are too low. If I can I use the disabled toilets but when these are locked then I can be in trouble. Can't get a disabled badge so can't gain access to the toilets. I have been known to have to crawl my way up the door or is that perhaps too much information? Our local cafe has an everyone toilet so that cafe is always our choice for a 'coffee stop' smile

All female loos have queues! It's the Spanx! grin

Lona Sat 24-May-14 08:40:52

Sorry, I think they have separate disabled loos for the above reason.
Brain fog this morning!

Lona Sat 24-May-14 08:38:56

Maybe, Grannyknot it's because some disabled people have to have a carer with them, and they just take a longer time, which may cause queues.
I don't see the point keeping them locked though.

Grannyknot Sat 24-May-14 08:35:33

@ ffinochio, you've raised an interesting and important point. Why make disabled loos 'different' by keeping them locked? All of us, including the disabled people, use the one on the floor where I work. It's never been a problem. The one loo in our small Waitrose branch is also "multi-purpose", complete with baby changing shelf.

Grannyknot Sat 24-May-14 08:30:27

Looks good to me! Just like the one at my house.

ffinnochio Sat 24-May-14 08:27:03

Well, living in France ...... ;-)

On a serious note, I'm delighted to see that wheelchair users are included as well. Brilliant. When out and about with mum, it was often the case that disability toilets were locked, which meant an exercise in finding out who had the key and where it was.

The pic. shows a bright, roomy space. Perfect for all.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. When you've gotta go....

thatbags Sat 24-May-14 08:00:21

Actually blue, black and white.

I think that "seeing apartheid" in this sign shows a very negative way of seeing.

thatbags Sat 24-May-14 07:59:05

Why? It's a loo for everyone and anyone. Just because some of the figures are black and some are white is only because the colours used for the sign are black and white. Don't be silly, seeing nastiness where it doesn't exist.

Aka Sat 24-May-14 07:50:29

Looks a bit apartheid to me!

thatbags Sat 24-May-14 07:20:01

or, as they say at Princeton, whichever. Which are you? And would you mind?

Which is right, actually, isn't it? Which are you – man, woman, wheelchair user? Whatever! You can use this loo.
