£2 for a pencil sharpener?

Get a reasonably good quality pencil sharpener from an arty shop or stationers, the cheap ones really are not as good.
Same with very cheap pencils which are made of cheap wood that does not sharpen well.

Another place to try is artists' supply shops because different drawing implements need special sharpeners.

That's true, but there is the danger of cuts. And fingers bleed profusely.

Use a penknife. Works on ordinary pencils too. You can sharpen any size stick with a penknife.

It's the same problem with woodworking pencils. They are very fat and do not fit regular sharpeners. You can buy a sharpener for them at builders' merchants so perhaps that might be the solution.

It's wood on the outside, just like a chunky pencil. Very soft lipstick in the middle. Not impressed, especially having to sharpen it to get access to more lipstick.

It's not an ordinary lipstick. It's a bit like a crayon. You have to sharpen it when the middle bit meets the wood (or whatever it is) just like a pencil!

Hmm, don't use eyebrow pencils or eyeliner pencils. Don't need a sharpener for lipstick as I tend to use the oblique angle method also and consequently they always have a nice sharp edge.

Actually, £2.00 isn't that bad...

(I've got a similar one too, Galen, it must be decades old. Just tried one of my chubby eyeshadow sticks in it and the larger hole will work just fine!)

I've got one that has two sizes. It came with an Estée Lauder eyeliner. It does ordinary pencils as well.

Depending on how you apply your lipstick, it might not be necessary to use a sharpener.
My mother used to apply her lipstick at 90 degrees to her lip, so that over time the lipstick wore flat.
But my best friend used to put hers on with the lipstick at a very oblique angle, so that the lipstick assumed a sharp pointed shape.
I do kind of half and half, so mine have a sharp angle at the top but aren't actually pointed.

It's not a lip liner - it's a wide stubby sort of pencil with ordinary lipstick running through the middle so you have to sharpen it as it wears down. No wonder they were giving them away.

OP, one of those things. My previous suggestion would have made no sense whatsoever.

To get a defined edge, Galen I think they mean a lip pencil for outlining rather than a lipstick

Why sharpen a lipstick? Do you have very thin lips?

Boots No 7 do a good one, but think that may be about £3, it's black plastic but lasts for ages so worth it.I have never thought to sharpen a lipstick though, have I missed out I wonder?

I used to take the razor blades out of my Dad's razor to sharpen my eyebrow pencils - he was very unreasonable about it ...

Just buy a cheap pencil sharpener at a local newsagents?

Good grief! I have a few flat eyebrow pencils and lipliners languishing in the make up bag because they don't seem to fit regular sharpeners either.
