How could I have been so dense?

We went away this weekend, and stayed in a lovely country pub in a tiny village near Melton Mowbray.

We went to bed fairly early at the pub, after a large meal and catching up on our emails etc. with a large drink in front of the fire, together with a nice but rather twee late-middle-aged couple, she was a bit clingy and ultra feminine, if you know what I mean. I read a little, it was lovely and quiet, the village was silent and all the locals had done their main weekend drinking the night before. Bliss.

Then, after a fairly short while, I was awoken by furious hammering at the door. I called out to ask who was there - no reply. Back to sleep.

I was awoken again an hour later, at around 1am, DBH too, again there was furious hammering. I thought maybe it was outside, the back door to the courtyard was below our room. Looked out of the window - nothing. Back to bed.

An hour later we were awoken again. This time I wondered if it was the central heating pipes being blocked with air, we decided that that must be what it was.

It happened again twice, at hourly intervals. Really incredibly loud. DBH slept through it better than I did. He got up at 7am and went downstairs to catch up on his emails as wifi in our room was poor, and I slowly and grumpily awoke after very little sleep. DBH came up and said that he had asked the owner what the noise was, and he couldn't think, but would check the heating.

We went down to breakfast, and the couple from the night before were already there. I went over to them, and asked if they had been awoken by all the banging the night before. She looked down and said nothing, he said Yes, it was them, the noise was their bed banging on the wall! shock I didn't know what to say! I just said, I had thought it was someone breaking in! blush

Viagra has a lot to answer for...

Anyway, we packed up our car after a rather quiet breakfast... and they both got into separate cars and drove off in separate directions!!!

We did laugh - but very tiredly! I bet he went home and said to his wife, the conference was very tiring, but the facilities were great!

DBH and pub owner now wondering where to buy Viagra. Pub owner relieved it was them, because the heating was turned off!

Oh dear... Yes, I think I would have been going hot and cold after that, too. I bet they were frozen! However, I bet they too had a good laugh about it afterwards.

A question I'm sure many of us have asked ourselves.

My husband and I lived in Spain for a while and we used to take our dogs to a secluded beach that was seldom used (you had to know it was there to find it). One early morning, we sat on the beach watching an older couple (maybe in their 60s) frolicking in the surf. We sat and drank coffee from the flask whilst the dogs swam in the sea very near to this couple and I marvelled at how long they were staying in - the water wouldn't have been that warm. We stayed for about 30 minutes and started the walk up the hillside back to the car. Half way up the hill climb, I glanced back at the beach to see the couple leaving the sea and both were stark naked - I think we had interrupted something very special for them blush

Had I had the sense to the think of it at the time, we'd have left a lot sooner rather than risk them getting hypothermia! I also felt a bit dense.

Reading everyone else's stories on the subject, I have my own personal sorry tale to tell.

We were just married and went to stay with my sister and her husband, who were going through a bit of a problematic time. They put us in a different room from usual, they had a beautiful old barn and the main window in this room was way up in the ceiling. It was hot, they had left it open, and the room had filled with midges. DBH was anxious about bites even with insect repellent on, so when we went to bed he just couldn't sleep, as he was being dive-bombed. So he said.

So I gave up, read on a chair and let him leap about on the bed flipping at them with a towel for almost an hour until he was so exhausted that he didn't care any more.

The next morning, DS and BiL weren't talking to us. It was half a day before I managed to work out what they thought we had been doing... My how we all laughed...

It took me even longer to work out that they were jealous!

Quite right annsixty, we use Premier inns especially the one in Ashford when we are travelling through the tunnel.

When we were in hospital residence, the couple next door made the most frightful racket - it used to make us smile when we met them in the corridor as he was tiny, very very weedy, with wispy hair, glasses and a lisp! It was almost beyond imagining that he could be such a stud!

Nowt wrong with Premier Inns JessM lots of us use them.

Lived in a house of bedsits as a student where a neighbour was very vocal in her intimate moments. We were both on the top floor. Neighbours below were never sure the sounds did not emanate from my roomblush

It get's worse. 'Banging on the door' sounds like a euphemism. grin

I used to stay in a very nice budget business orientated hotel in Bristol when on business . (slightly upmarket from premier inn). One evening a female guest seemed to be having a really good time for hours. All other guests must have been impressed/envious/outpsyched (as in: my girlfriend is only that happy for a few seconds at a time...)
Another time I was running a training course in a rather nice hotel that was owned by the company I worked for. We were working in a room that was normally a bedroom. At tea time we met a colleague who was having a mid week break there with his wife. After tea I had to keep training on track to the accompaniment of a lot of squeaky sliding around the bath noises from the adjoining room smile

POGS It was indeed hourly. I was hoping someone could enlighten me on how Viagra works, and is that normal? grin

A friend says that now I know why they were called Knocking shops! I really and truly thought someone was knocking - or rather, banging - on the door. It was only the vibrations going through the floor under our bed that made me think of air in pipes in the central heating system - which was off!

I saw a couple in a hotel restaurant who looked very much like the middle aged business man and his very young secretary/floozie. It didn't seem a terribly cheerful meal and when the coffee was served she got the packet of Feminax out of her bag. I'm afraid I had a quiet snigger about his "business conference" not being as interesting as he had hoped grin

Blimey, on the hour, every hour.

Is that what they mean by the rhythm method? grin

rosequartz Sun 13-Apr-14 21:05:48

Wouldn't you think they would have pulled the bed away from the wall after the first time it happened grin

Showing off!

Penstemmon Sun 13-Apr-14 20:32:36

Oh! hope it wasn't the Stilton Cheese! wink

janerowena Sun 13-Apr-14 20:06:02

There is a sign at the door to the courtyard that reads 'No swearing outside, and please keep the noise down'.

The landlord said maybe he will add 'No Viagra on the premises please'!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 13-Apr-14 20:02:13

Like that Elegran grin

rosesarered Sun 13-Apr-14 19:54:46

granjura Sun 13-Apr-14 19:54:33

Ooops - lol.

Hope you enjoyed some great pork pies- whilst he enjoyed his ...porkie pies ;)

Elegran Sun 13-Apr-14 19:53:52

We had a similar experience in a hotel in the Trossachs, but in this case the rooms around us were unoccupied, so it must have been some of the staff! It was six weeks before DS was born, his sisters were parked with granny, and this was to be a nice restful weekend away before life got very busy.

We were wakened several times, the last at about 5 am. As their bed was against the other side of the wall that our bed was on, the noise was particularly loud.

We reckoned that they thought our room was also unoccupied, so we gave them a salvo on our bed in reply. It suddenly went very quiet next door.

janerowena Sun 13-Apr-14 19:53:11

I am SO tired...

He was so open about it! I think he was proud of himself.

Am now worried that the lady concerned was a gransnetter. grin

Nonu Sun 13-Apr-14 19:50:37

We once had a similar experience in a Premier Inn but as it was accompanied by moans and shouts we we left in no doubt as to the cause. There was a Do Not Disturb notice on the door next morning so we never saw them but they were very happy.
