Lovely ideas nanapug.
Re age ninathenana, even with dangerous activities like making a fire you can still start showing them how to do things so they are ready to do them on their own when older. In the summer, our GD, then 5 & GS,3 watched us while we made a camp fire in the garden & we gave them simple tasks to help - like collecting sticks, putting the turf back. It also showed Grandpa that Girl Guiding skills weren't all wrong.
The National Trust have produced a booklet of 50 activities kids should have done by the age of 11.
