We are going to a friend's 70th birthday lunch in London on April 19th, a surprise organised by his children, and it only seems like yesterday that we were at his 60th surprise, organised by his children
And I still have the outfit I bought for it!

I remember a younger friend going through endless, heartbreaking rounds of IVF and being a mum seemed to be completely out of her reach - and we are going to her twins' 4th birthday party next month

I said to a 4 year old recently "We have to hurry, time is running away" and the reply came back with furrowed brow "But time doesn't run" I thought "Wait ..."

I was shocked to realise that DD has been married for 17 years. I still think of her as being about 17 so I can't make the maths work at all !

A friend told me recently that it is 50 years since we left school. Unbelievable !

Time moves no faster than it ever has. We just gain the ability to waste it more, and then regret it!

I met a friend by chance today. I used to babysit for her 3 before I had my own children. She informed me her eldest DGD is 17 next month

It's 52 years in June since I graduated and friends are now celebrating golden weddings. It's when events that have happened in my lifetime are my grandchildren's history lessons that I have to think that 'tempus fugit'.

Says it all! Well, most of it.

Not at all Ana.It's just that it hit a nerve. Probably very true but sad. I tend to think time goes faster because it takes me so much longer to do things eg housework. I can't believe how quickly the morning has gone and how little I have accomplished.

When you are 20 a year is one twentieth of your life. When you are 70 a year is one seventieth of your life. No wonder time seems to go faster.

Recently 'found' a college friend through the Internet. Last saw each ither as bright and bushy-tailed 21 year-olds, now both grandmothers. Wonder where the rest of our 'Cartrefle' gang of six have gone and how they have fared?

I recently met up with an old school friend, last seen in 1965. I noticed that when talking to him I still related to him as the 18 year old I knew, not the rather stout & aging Professor emeritus. I found it difficult to imagine how I would have viewed him if meeting him for the first time now - I'd probably have felt intimidated.

,, & I was about to add, it was as if time had stood still.

Yes gadabout I've been to school reunions and met people for the first time in 40 years, and once the initial surprise has worn off, you're back there in the sixth form and remembering all those things you got up to behind the bike sheds.
Fascinating to see what some people have made of their lives - and for the most part, mellowed into much nicer people than they were at school!
