Good Morning Mothering Sunday

I think my DDs have forgotten it is next week as they have booked a van to collect a sofa from Glasgow and then offered to take a load of DH's old junk to the coup in the afternoon. Unless......

Now wondering what one should wear to be taken to the coup again.

My daughter got it wrong, she ordered me flowers to be delivered, so I got them a week early, but they`re appreciated just as much.

I'm not holding my breath as mine are in the Falklands and postage is very erratic. I did get a nice birthday card last month though.

I no longer have a mother so wasn't panicking at least. DD1 usually forgets, DD2 is away on holiday and DS is hopefully coming over next week to help move our boat so I don't think a Mothering Sunday lunch is on the cards then either!

I think that 2 Mothers Days are a good idea! Can't call it Mothering Sunday, because I never have done.

AllieO There is nothing for it but for you to demand a proper "Mother's Day" meal next week!

It would be worse Nellie if we still followed the Julian calendar. We could be celebrating Easter in August or November. And what would Cadbury's do then?

Gosh, I am so glad that the date was wrong - couldn't imagine that all my lot had forgotten!

Nellie it's because it's related to the Lunar Calendar, which has 13 months, rather than the Gregorian, which has 12. The first full moon after the Spring Equinox is not a fixed date.
That's why Chinese New Year is a different date (to us ) each year.

These movable "feasts" Eid, Hannuka, Passover, Diwali and Easter all seem mess with our calendars. I wonder how that all originated.

Laetare

Anno, it's really quite simple. Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox. Mothering Sunday, or Leatare Sunday (so called after the opening words of the Introit of the day - Laetare Jerusalem et conventum facite omnes - Rejoice O Jerusalem and come together ....) falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent. A movable feast.

Now who could possibly get confused by that?

It is next week according to the "what to feed mum on" guide that came in the Co-op brochure. I have checked this and I thought it was the 30th March, as the date came up when it was considered stopping at a pub for lunch at next weeks Geology trip. That's not on as all the pubs will be heaving with happy families!

It's so good to hear 'Mothering Sunday' mentioned rather than the commercial 'Mother's Day'. My Mum would only acknowledge the Sunday version and woe betide me if I didn't send a card with Mothering Sunday written upon it.

When you no longer have a mother yourself it's very easy to lose track. A bit like school holidays when you no longer have schoolchildren. Weather wise here, on the Isle of Wight, it's a mixed bag, bright sunshine, torrential rain for fifteen minutes, then back to sunshine again. I guess someone went out who has a personal rain cloud. It seems I'm not the only one!

Goodness, that panicked me too. Good morning ...

The mistake isn't so surprising, given the very late date of Easter this year. But don't get me into the mysteries of the Church calendar! A very March morning here - breezy and chilly, occasionally bright.

Good morning all, thank goodness I am not the only one who gets things wrong occasionally! It is a beautiful morning here again, although I think the wind might be chilly. Off to play the last game of short mat bowls this p.m, so light lunch instead of the Sunday roast. Enjoy your days everyone.

That put me in a panic - I knew I was due to make coffee at church on Mothering Sunday and thought I'd missed it; supposed to be making cake.

Ooh I got a fright because am meant to be somewhere else if it's Mother's Day, but it's not till next Sunday, phew.
