Clean silver without buying proprietory cleaners by putting a piece of aluminium foil into a saucepan or washing up bowl, adding a tablespoon or two of bicarbonate of soda and pouring in boiling or very hot water. Soak silver or EPNS for five minutes or so, rinse and dry. A reaction transfers ions from the foil to the tarnish and converts it back to silver. No scratches, no nasty smell, no surface removed by rubbing.
If the item is too big to submerge, turn it over and repeat.
