Why ever do so many people say that urinating in public is not done elsewhere? It is absolutely common practice in France, you see it everywhere. So much so that we have a family phrase for it.

Wikipedia says: A prude (Old French prude meaning honourable woman)[1] is a person who is described as (or would describe themselves as) being concerned with decorum or propriety, significantly in excess of normal prevailing standards. They may be perceived as being more uncomfortable than most with sexuality or nudity.

Well I am not bothered by nudity.. don't parade my body now as it is rather Bagpuss like now! But I do walk to and fro the bathroom and if my brother is out would go to the spare room where the ironing pile is to retrieve clothes! Happy to be nakey-spakey in shower/changing room at pool with DGCs..think it sets a sort of example about 'all bodies are normal'

But I am prudish about public sex/snogging! I do not mind a greeting kiss or a goodbye kiss & hug etc but almost eating one another & groping in the street, on a train etc. is unnecessary!

Issues about beer bellies, tattoos, mutton dressed as lamb, old goats dressed as kids, inappropriate clothing on children etc I may not like but don't think that is prudish just a matter of my personal likes /dislikes!

When I picked up my 16-year-old son's jeans from the floor and a pack of condoms fell out of the pocket, I wasn't sure how to react. I came down on the side of feeling relieved rather than shocked and just put them back in the pocket. I only told him recently, 26 years later, about this discovery.

I was horrified when my friend allowed her then 16 year old son have his girlfriend to stay in his room.

Does that make me a prude? If so, then I am.

I don't think it is that you are becoming more prudish sunseeker, I think many younger people today are laissez-faire and careless of other people' feelings.

I have just realised that my husband was quite prudish back in the days when our lads were teenagers, whereas I was simply pragmatic. The question arose when our then 17 year old wanted his girlfriend to sleep over with him in his room. I said OK, DH said No Way. I argued that they were obviously having sex anyway, so I preferred the idea of his room, than the idea of the back seat of a car. DH agreed in the end, and the sky didn't fall. I had already given our lads in-depth contraceptive advice.

Later, DH admitted he'd been too prudish.

I can go better than that KittyLester - I walked past a youngish couple mid-afternoon on one of our infamous redways and because of all the noise they were making I turned round just as the woman pulled down her knickers and squatted ... I have never been so shocked and disgusted! No excuse for it at all but they were walking away from a pub and they looked the sort who might have had a lunchtime session...that was disgusting!

I'd like to change the subject from penises back to bum cracks if that's alright.

I have been wondering whether those who object to bc do so in a general way so that if, for instance, they see a naked person they focus on the bc and think 'how horrid' or is it only when the bc can be seen over a pair of slipping down trousers that their 'prudery' is activated?

kittylester thank you so much.......I now have this vision in my head of a line of penises waving at you from the side of the road .........I think my biggest hate, is spitting on the pavement......vile habit and spreads germs everywhere.

I find the older I become the less prudish I am - if someone whats to flaunt what they have, then I don't have to look!

Things I DISLIKE are overweight sweaty man wearing football shirts with their beer bellies straining the material when you know the closest they get to a football match is sitting on the sofa on a Saturday afternoon with a six pack of beer and a pizza!

I actually like some tattoos - I had a friend who got a new tattoo for every year she survived cancer. Can't say I like the ones that cover the whole of the back or on the face - but that is a personal preference.

No harm at all but just not beside the road within spitting peeing distance of a loo. As I said, pure laziness.

It was the 'obviousness' of it that proved my prudery [as per the OP].

I have peed in woods and behind hedges - discreetly! And the loos were completely accessible. Penises were visible too - I've also seen one or two (or more) of those but would prefer not to see them waving to me from the side of the road!

Urinating into compost heaps is to be positively encouraged.
I remember once having to urinate by the side of the M5 on a snowy dark November night as my car had broken down. I chose the only patch of nettles to squat on. Ouch!

What actually would/could you do if OH called out "someone coming"? Gone are the days when I could stop mid-flow.

My grandsons always laugh at me because I walk such a long way into the woods. You can't be too careful.

DH has often peed in the woods & occasionally at the side of a road into a hedge. That's what comes of having prostate problems, it isn't laziness, he would love to be able to wait to get to toilet.

But that's the whole point, gally et al, men don't expose their buttocks in order to pee, and if they're facing into a hedge, they aren't displaying their penises either.
