My GC just love my stick (blue) and crutches (red) and play with them endlessly - they have been goalposts, struts for dens and (inevitably - sigh) guns.

I worked my whole life with people with disabilities and very few are offended my well-meant jokes - in fact most of the jokes came directly from them, mostly unrepeatable.

I well remember a man with dwarfism in his 70s, and the multi-disciplinary team were tying themselves in knots about how to refer to his "problem" in a meeting. In the end I asked him how he would like his dwarfism to be described in the necessary forms as it was getting ridiculous. His reply was, "I was born f****ing dwarf, and I will die a f***ing dwarf. For goodness sake stop tiptoeing around. I am proud of who I am." He also had a very racy sense of humour and a good line in self-deprecatory jokes.

It's all blown over now Anno there was a cold front developing but happily the Gale(n) overrode the low pressure and blew away the storm clouds.

Nonnie Tue 18-Mar-14 15:54:33

nina No, I didn't mean that I meant how do you all manage to find the time? I don't get on here nearly as much as some so certainly couldn't add any more grin

annodomini Tue 18-Mar-14 15:42:45

What a storm in a washing basket I've missed when I't been sitting on trains most of the day!

Aka Tue 18-Mar-14 15:35:13

You're one classy dame Galen grin

Flowerofthewest Tue 18-Mar-14 14:13:12

grin grin jingle

Anne58 Tue 18-Mar-14 14:07:11

I don't think so Galen I'm sure I would have remembered that! I think it was someone talking about de-cluttering, unless of course that was a euphemism? confused

I'll never hear the phrase "giving the cupboards a good clear out" in the same light again! grin

Dragonfly1 Tue 18-Mar-14 13:59:17

Eh?

Galen Tue 18-Mar-14 13:57:16

Phoenix was it the thread where I described the claimant who claimed DLA for help with sex?

Galen Tue 18-Mar-14 13:56:00

I already have colour coordinated crutches and pearls to go with various outfitss
Eg. I have pearls with turquoise and crutches to match
Pearls with red coral and brown crutches to blend
Pearls with Rose Quartz I haven't been able to match up yet so just use the carbon fibre ones.

Anne58 Tue 18-Mar-14 13:50:40

Not yet, Elegran but I might add it to my portfolio of patents pending, along with the co-ordinated zimmer frame accessories range and the other idea that I put somewhere on here for a hide away solution for the temporary display of grand childrens art offerings and unwanted/hideous knick knacks.

(just wish I could remember which thread it was on, it involved a pelmet and the sort of pulley clothes airer thing that people who don't know any better hang bunches of dried flowers and copper saucepans from in the misguided belief that it imparts a rustic look to their B&Q/Smallbone of Devizes (delete where not applicable) kitchen)

Dragonfly if the right one was chosen, I think even Marge Simpson would be reassured that she was always looking her best.

ninathenana Tue 18-Mar-14 13:47:42

Nonnie it is possible to join as many forums on as many sites as you like. I 'belong' to 4 and nosey at others that I'm not actually a member of and therefore can't post on.

Dragonfly1 Tue 18-Mar-14 13:23:54

I agree Phoenix, the extra height would be beneficial. This thread is making me giggle.

Elegran Tue 18-Mar-14 13:23:28

Have you patented that idea, Phoenix?

glassortwo Tue 18-Mar-14 13:20:32

It would hide the pearls galen smile

Anne58 Tue 18-Mar-14 13:16:50

My main concern is what effect it would have on the users hair. Imagine if they had got it just right, not too bouffant, perfect amount of root lift then just as they were bowling along merrily, with a smile and a nod to greet each passer by and BUM ! It starts to rain.

Now, in this situation the use of the laundry basket shows initiative in 2 ways, firstly the hair is protected from the rain, but (importantly) there is no compromise in issues of health and safety, as the user still has reasonably unrestricted vision, both from the front and the sides.

However, let us consider what might happen when the basket is removed, either because the user has reached their destination and is now safely protected from the elements, or because the rain has stopped.

I put it to you that in the scenario outlined in the first example, the user could retire to a suitable location and with the aid of a mirror and a handy implement restore their barnet to a pre-laundry basket condition.

BUT in the second scenario, the user may be in full view in a public place sporting a most unflattering "flat-top" style.

There is however a solution! Instead of the rectangular laundry basket depicted in the image shown, might I suggest the use of a round deeper basket such as this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=laundry+basket&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=IkYoU_WNGc7Q7AbBoYHADA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg&biw=1440&bih=750#q=round+laundry+basket+plastic&tbm=isch&imgdii=_basket

This would rest lightly on the shoulders but the added height would leave the coiffure untouched.

Galen grin

Nonnie Tue 18-Mar-14 12:55:59

I'm still a Mumsnet virgin. How do so many of you manage to go on more than one site?

Galen Tue 18-Mar-14 12:53:28

Drogonfly if you saw my erratic driving (according to dd) you'd realise it's probably an improvement!

Galen Tue 18-Mar-14 12:52:03

Did you do an apprenticeship? What wre the articles and how long were your (in)dentures for. Who was your master?

Dragonfly1 Tue 18-Mar-14 12:50:45

I was a Mumsnet virgin until recently.

Dragonfly1 Tue 18-Mar-14 12:49:13

You're quite right Ana. Thank you. Although how the hell you'd steer with that ruddy thing wobbling around on your head, I don't know. confused

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 12:46:03

To anyone who had done an apprenticeship of several years on Mumsnet, that is what it means.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 18-Mar-14 12:44:34

It means, and meant in this case, "hope that helps".

hmm

Ana Tue 18-Mar-14 12:44:20

As the OP says 'good idea for a rainy day' I'm assuming she Hopes That Helps! Wouldn't make much sense for it to be How the Hell?!
