A friend's son in law has a very aggressive brain tumour. He is being very positive about it, as are his family (17 year old twins), despite the prognosis not being very good. I am amazed at the strength which comes from who knows where to sustain people facing such a difficult time.
On a lighter note, our Youth Theatre have just got through to the Scottish Finals to take place in June. The play they performed last night was absolutely amazing and sent shivers of pride down my spine.

Good morning dear Granspals. The sun is shining. I'm thinking especially fondly of those of you who are experiencing a difficult time.

We've been ages on the internet, trying to establish the most sensible way to make the journey down south for T's 4th birthday celebrations. It's a long from here to Sussex...which is where we could stay over night. Alternatively, we could set off from here by bus to Glasgow and then go to London by train and stay over in a hotel close to the station. This would give us breathing space after the long journey. Next day, T's birthday, will be at a London venue. We would therefore head in that direction and join in the fun. After the birthday bash, we'd return to Sussex with Torbs and his daddy. We then have a couple more days of taking care of him before returning home. Phew!

That is one awful journey I suspect. Would you not feel superglued to your seat if you travelled that distance by bus? Provided you did not travel by train from Glascow to London on a Sunday, that would be a more pleasant trip and if you could go first class, even better. I feel nowadays that it is more like travelling "cattle class" than second class.

I personally have found travelling 2nd class London to Edinburgh fairly horrendous, overcrowded and little comfort.

I did not realise that young man is almost 4 years old. He appears to be growing up so quickly.

Soop have you thought about flying Glasgow to Gatwick? Must be quicker, easier and probably not a lot in it £-wise.

Charleygirl and Gagagran We have booked the bus tickets on-line just £1 [because we elderly]...and the train tickets [have a senior travel card each] and therefore managed a cock-up by ticking the box for one passenger and not the other. Got on help-line to a nice young man called Graham...he sorted matters for us. Booked in to a hotel at Euston. We all meet at T's birthday party next day. Phew! I'm cream crackered. Now have a pile of ironing to do. And, I'm told, a tortoiseshell cat to feed.

Still at Sandhurst. Home tomorrow. I've had a day out with DS1 and senior GD, to Windsor where we saw the guard change, had a trip on the Thames and enjoyed a satisfying lunch. Lucky they both had the day off. What a glorious weekend it has been.

Ahh soop It's good to have the tickets in the bag isn't it. I've just done ours on-line as well , so we'll all be off to see the grandkids soon!

soop re forgetting to book 2 train tickets, it does help sometimes to put on the birdbrain, elderly persona, I find that it works most of the time. At least everything is now booked. I hope that the hotel at Euston is decent and that you get a reasonable night's sleep as the fire engines etc fly past day and night not giving a lot of peace.

Torben will be getting very excited.

I managed to mess up our online booking with National Express last year and a nice young man sorted it out for me on the phone.

I have also 'messed up' two purchases online last week and had to phone instead, to be told by both firms there was a 'glitch' in their systems. So not my elderly brain.

Feeling a bit under-the -weather today, achey with a cough so will sit quietly in the corner and watch soop ironing. So soothing.

rosequartz you really must take it easy today if you are not feeling well. A nice cup of coffee and maybe a slice of cake will help.

I must confess I just nodded off, now DH is making a nice cup of tea. A slice of cake would be lovely, please, and the
Paracetamol have made me feel a bit better thank goodness.

DGD2 is not well either, and I was looking after her at the weekend. She must have shared her bugs.

Charleygirl Well, I did book two return tickets. However, I omitted to place the number 2 in the discount box. Only one ticket was at special price and t'other was full price. It took an age to get the matter sorted as we'd completed the transaction. Graham was a star. All's well now

We had great difficulty finding a decent place to stay. Happy with our final choice. To be able to go directly to our hotel [and not carry on by train to Sussex after twelve hours of travel], is a mighty big bonus. We shall be that tired we won't be disturbed by outside noises.

rosequartz Darling girl...please take yourself off to bed. There are a number of nasty bugs around. You really need to rest. We can't have you becoming proper poorly.

Hi Soop,I can't believe the wee man is four. When's the party? Hope you don't mind me coming into your warm and cosy kitchen after I have been away from GN for so long. It's a fasting day so I can't have cake, but if there's some left over for tomorrow .....

I've come to take refuge from the world for a while. Just feeling fed up with myself and need a change of scene. Peace and quiet! A bolt hole. I am in one of my disorganised states at present.

I promised to get an address for someone and lost their email which I scribbled down on a bit of paper.

Feeling very cross with myself, and too tired to faff about tonight.

I remember, years ago, a German friend saying that this is a tricky time of year, the weather is warming, daylight hours are increasing but the body needs time to adjust, it's very easy to overdo things in a mad rush to Spring!
