Just seen in the paper that Susannah Reid (currently on tour with strictly)has announced her separation from her husband. This may explain why GrandmaMinny has been absent from the forum. So sad for all concerned but happens all too often when one spouse's career takes off in a new direction. sad

Christine Bleakley's show about the countryside (couldn't be bothered to watch it so don't know what it was called) has been axed due to poor ratings.

Maybe becoming a WAG was a smarter career move?

Career-wise. not streetwise

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 04-Mar-14 09:58:24

I think k it could be safer streetwise to stick with the Bee b. She might have made a big mistake here. Serves her right too.

Spot on Tegan. Still the case sadly.

Soutra Tue 04-Mar-14 07:19:26

sad but [true] !

Tegan Mon 03-Mar-14 23:54:51

...also, being a woman working on the telly you have to make your money while you've still got your looks; I'm afraid that, unlike men women are still judged on their physical appearance sad.

There's no point in being loyal to the BBC. Clare Balding reckoned her illness was partly due to the stress brought on by the BBC not renewing her contract a few years ago.

i should think that life on ITV, based in London will be easier for her than constantly having to commute to and from London.

durhamjen Mon 03-Mar-14 23:32:23

Except that I believe she was quoted as saying that the BBC ran through her like a stick of rock. Hostage to fortune there.

Soutra Mon 03-Mar-14 23:29:55

Why is it construed as "defection" if a person takes a job with another company at an increased salary? Despitethe false intimacy of coming into our living rooms via our tv sets * we do not own* tv presenters or performers do we? And I am finding a difference in the justification of commenting on Susanna Reid the performer and the DD of one of our fellow grannies. "Slebs" may be viewed as fair game in the media but a person's life is their own business.

merlotgran Mon 03-Mar-14 23:15:04

I once put the Alan Titchmarsh Show on by mistake.

Tegan Mon 03-Mar-14 23:05:37

The S.O. watches breakfast tv [not at my house, though].

harrigran Mon 03-Mar-14 22:53:02

Does anybody actually watch ITV during the day ?

Ana Mon 03-Mar-14 22:25:22

For that sum, I wouldn't quibble about the length of the contract! grin

Charleygirl Mon 03-Mar-14 22:17:33

I believe one million, but I do not know the length of the contract.

rosequartz Mon 03-Mar-14 20:31:19

Who wouldn't?

Ana Mon 03-Mar-14 20:25:24

Yes, and let's face it, if Susannah's been offered a lot more money and no longer has to commute it makes a lot of sense to take ITV's offer!

rosequartz Mon 03-Mar-14 20:13:32

The BBC made things difficult when they spent so much of our money relocating to Salford. If people wanted to keep their jobs, like Susannah, they had to do a horrible commute if their children were settled in schools and partners in jobs and they didn't want to move. And I think Strictly takes up so much of a contestant's life that the rest of the family would have to be extremely understanding and well able to cope.
I feel sorry for them all, especially the children. I wasn't on GN so never heard of grandmaminey, but we always like Susannah on Breakfast. It's just a change of job, sometimes the press makes it sound like a defection if people move from BBC to ITV!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Mar-14 18:44:56

It's a camping programme Julia Bradbury will do

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Mar-14 18:41:28

Oh no! When I mentioned Daybreak there I was referring back to Susannah Reid. Sorry to confuse.

kittylester Mon 03-Mar-14 18:40:10

I don't think Julia Bradbury is going to Daybreak. She is doing something similar to her Beeb programmes but on ITV. Hopefully that means more Helen Skelton on the Beeb!

Tegan Mon 03-Mar-14 18:33:17

She must have ran out of places to walk to so she's walked there sad. Or maybe she's fed up of being typecast and wants to sit down for a bit [bunions perhaps??]....

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Mar-14 15:41:49

Julia Bradbury?!!! shock

I don't think that Daybreak is a very reliable horse to back.

Charleygirl Mon 03-Mar-14 15:29:25

Does that mean that Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones are no longer presenting ITV Breakfast? They did not last long.

merlotgran Mon 03-Mar-14 15:26:57

Julia Bradbury has defected to ITV as well. Maybe they should have had a word with Christine Bleakley before making the jump?
