Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?
Hoping for some company. Been awake since 4.15, no reason really, I just am!
Thank you Nana3 and Christinefrance - mum is making a good recovery and as long as her mobility improves she is looking at discharge early next week!
As for sleep - it just doesn't happen but I try not to reach for the electronic devices because then I am awake for even longer ...??
It is a challenge though ?
I was awake at 6.30, I thought it was 7.30 and got out of bed. Serves me right for sleeping, for an hour and a half, on the sofa yesterday afternoon. After quite a lot of tests GP has said that my Vitamin D is depleted and I need treatment which goes a long way to explain my fatigue.
A busy day indeed morethan. Have a lovely time at the wedding reception and a better nights sleep. I'm hoping not to be on this thread tomorrow night. Will try not to nap this afternoon.
Probably notNana3 I have a school run with youngest granddaughter. Then the hairdresser and a wedding reception. I'm not complaining really because they are all nice things. I'm sure I'd enjoy them more if I wasn't so tired. I just can't get my head around why I wake so blooming early. I'm here drinking tea and eating very brown bananas (waste not want not) on crusty bread. I hope that sustains me for the early morning chatter from the 5 year old.
Awake here. I seem to have developed a pattern of waking with a start, every hour or two.
This is probably about the 4th time I've woken up. Feel exhausted, as I've been having really busy days lately; physically and emotionally.
Going to make coffee.
Been awake for about 2 hours, OH up and getting ready for work so no chance of going back to sleep. Will you nap in the daytime morethan2?
grrrrrrr I'm too tired to say anything else.
Thank you, did get a couple of hours sleep later.
Glad your Mum is so well settled Nana3.
JG your Mum may well be much improved after the UTI is treated as they are notorious for causing confusion etc in older people , do hope this is the case .
Hello fellow insomniacs?
Having had a few quite reasonable nights sleep-for no particular reason, suddenly started again night before last awake every hour. Feeling v tired this morning. Am SO grateful that I no longer go to work but it does affect days all the same. Friend coming up soon (she rings her Mum in Oz from our landline-much cheaper than her mob) then former colleague coming for a coffee and a catch up.
Then will HAVE to go outside, do some gardening (ouch-poor back!) to stay awake. It will be hard after eating this evening to stay awake til a reasonable bedtime.
I just don't know what the answer is, sigh!
Good (early) morning, been awake since 4am as usual. Good luck with the physio Cf hope you have managed some sleep.
I've been in your position jg mum's been settled in a care home for over a year now, it's certainly a relief to have the 24 hour care. No more uti or hospital visits since being there.
Ouch! That sounds painful. Hope you're out and about again soon. Take good care of yourself.
One of the dogs wanted to go out so that's me awake. First physio session today at 1pm, will be glad when I can walk properly after broken pelvis . Trying not to eat anything as I'm piling on weight being inactive. Best wishes to other non sleepers

No snoring here Day6. Been catching up on emails and other stuff. In the last hour I've also sent donations to two charities coping in the famine areas in Africa. I'd decided I might be awake because I was hungry and the fact that I could just go to the kitchen and decide whether to have cereal, a sandwich, or porridge or toast, made me feel very guilty!
So I've had a banana and a milky drink - still wide awake. Have you tried some lavender on your pillow?
I am a night-owl, even if I know the next day I must be a lark and up and out early.
All my sleep is chemically induced and some nights the drug doesn't kick in. I am often awake in the early hours. I do the ironing with my headphones in so I can listen to music without disturbing the neighbours. I'll read or do puzzles sometimes.
I am not sure how I manage on so little sleep, but I am thankful I seem able to cope nonetheless.
I can hear you all snoring you know......
Finding it difficult to settle tonight - never mind actual sleep? It's been a rollercoaster kind of a week so far - including two A&E admissions for my 90-year-old mum! She is currently in hospital with a uti....but, more worrying is her dementia and how she will cope with the ever changing environment...
She is 'off her legs' just now as well. I need her to be back up and mobile so that she can return to her v. sheltered accommodation ? and resume her relaxed lifestyle ?
Otherwise I have to start considering specialist dementia homes ??
I've reawakened this thread for no other reason than I'm up to my usual not sleeping mode it infuriates me. thats it really. We've got a new comfy bed, nice clean sheets. I tidied the bed room yesterday. So everything is in place for a good sleep but it's seems it's not to be. I'll be exhausted tommorow and I've got a busy day ahead. I'm off to see my youngest who's broken his leg. So a two hour journey each way. I'm being driven so I'm not worried about that. It'll be a lovely day spoilt by my tiredness. bugger oh bother.
morethan
No, I meant that I sleep 3 or 4 hours a night. It was the way I put it.
I do hope you are not going to go through a patch of insomnia, it's awful to not get your sleep.
fiorentina Did you manage to get some extra sleep before your visitors came? It's Sod's Law that that will happen, when you have something arranged.
I actually slept 6 hours through on Friday/Saturday, thinking that the blood test was fine and I was relieved. Not so, blood test very much not fine and tonight I will probably be up most of the night on here to take my mind off things. Or making Christmas stocking bunting.
Onward and upward Rubylady. I've been awake since 3 am and have now given up. No doubt I will be ready for snooze by about 11 which is when we have visitors coming. ?
I hope things get better rubylady I take it you mean you sleep for 3/4 of an hour and not 3/4 of the day?
bugger oh dear I woke up about an hour ago but stayed in bed but eventually got so unsettled I thought well it must be about 5.30ish and got up. I was shocked to see it's not even three o'clock. I hope this isn't the start of a long spell of insomnia...AGAIN. I've got work in a few hours I will be knackered. It's probably the fact that I've got work that's woke me up. It looks like it's just me. The only person in the world wide awake. That's what it feels like this time in the morning.
Thank you Azie.
I'm still not sleeping all night through and the skin crawling thing is still there along with sores on my lower legs due to the water retention and then catching them, causing them to weep. But hey, on the positive note, I have had a child free home now for eight weeks and am loving it.
I have painted everywhere pink and covered it in butterflies and lace!
No more boxer shorts!!!
I do think it has done us both good, my son going to university. This last week, when we have chatted, I am getting the "I love you" again when he is going to hang up.
I know what the stress was, it was bringing him up totally alone for 15 years. My sister is on Linkedin, and is quoted as saying that she is good with youths. Well, after years of asking for her help and not getting a single second of time off her, then it hurts to see her say that and work in the youth sector and not give a stuff for either her nephew or her sister.
Anyway, I am done with all that now. Onwards and upwards.
There was a guy today on Sunday Brunch who said that sleep should be taken in smaller chunks throughout the day other than the eight hours we all strive for. This is what I have to do now, four hours overnight and 3/4 during the day. If I get some sleep, I don't really care.
I too take an antihistamine Tricia, for the skin crawling feeling and put my fan on in my bedroom (facing away from me now but I need the noise to get me to sleep). If it works, use it. Although sex is supposed to be good but I'm not going that far!
Last night I was awake until 2am, then took a Piriton - eventually slept until 6.30, which is good for me.
I knew we were going to have a busy day today.
I find Piriton doesn't have a "hangover " affect, but don't want to take them too often.
I wish I'd come and looked on here at 4am instead of tossing and turning! Looks like lots were awake. I was missing my daughters, in the US and shortly NZ and fretting about my painful knees, foot, lower back. Sorry to read your posts Ruby lady, how our children put us over a barrel. Hugs to you.
I'm here. Slept for four hours, been catching up with iPlayer and headphones since about 5. I find it I don't stress and just relax I can cope with the day. Or that's the theory! Hope you've nodded off now morethan and whatever is keeping you awake is temporary.
