Soop's Extended Extension.

Had an interesting weekend to say the least. Felt unwell on Friday night and by Saturday morning DH called 999. Paramedics appeared as I was showing signs of TIA/Mini Stroke, BP was dangerously low at 60. Admitted to hospital, put on sodium chloride drip, strenuous tests, x.ray and cat scan. All clear. Diagnosis was a viral infection and I was discharged yesterday afternoon.

Scary stuff to put it mildly and although feeling completely wiped out, just relieved it was nothing worse.

Must say my NHS treatment at the Victoria Infirmary was first class in every way.

Just calling in after a lovely day spent at an old rice plantation in Charleston. It had the most beautiful garden with more magnolias, camellias and azaleas than I have ever seen. Also alligators which were a little too close for comfort.

I thought about all of you at breakfast in the hotel. There were the most delicious muffins (several flavours) and I wished I could have sent some over to you. I had a blueberry one and a chocolate one. Well, I am on my hols

Congratulations Soutra - lovely news for you all. Hope your cold will soon get better. DH swears by honey and lemon when he has a cold. I suspect he throws a large shot of whisky in as well

I can now officially reveal that as DD and SIL have told SIL's parents today, we are looking forward to littlest fella and littlest fella's little bro gaining an even littler sibling at the end of August!
No we don't know what flavour and neither do they and we are hoping that DD can keep her legs crossed into September on account of littlest littlest one's school starting dates in 4-5 years' time plus they are at my ex-sister-in-law's wedding in France in August! Both boys were late so there is hope, but there is also Sod's Law.
Of course it is now my bounden duty as a mum and granny in waiting to worry for the next 6 months but hey ho, twill be fun!!

A true open fire sounds perfect soop, its wet and cold in our house.

rosequartz I agree with the birthday card, it certainly applies here. Tara has sniffed at her food and fresh water and retired to bed yet again.

I wish that somebody would prepare my food and drink with such monotonous regularity! I would be more than grateful.

Deb - I see on your info that you have not got a round tuit - we have one here which I keep going to throw out but find it is very useful to take out of the cupboard so that we can just gaze at it sometimes. Like today.

Charleygirl, I bought a birthday card once which said 'Dogs think they're humans, cats know they're gods'

I sent it to my SIL, they had 2 dogs (one gone to doggy heaven very recently) which he adored and DD1'S cat which she had before they were married. SIL loathes the cat (or pretends to, as we have heard him talking to the cat when he thinks no-one else is there).

It is grey outside. The islands are veiled in mist. The wind is chilly. Soon be time to light the fire. MacSporran will choose something from his collection of classical music. One of the best parts of the weekend. Then, at six o'clock sharp...drinkie poos.

soutra may I suggest a toddy? You should not really be driving anywhere tomorrow and you will probably infect your friend!

soop If I am not standing waiting at the living room door which is glass (am I ever?), Tara hammers her paws against the door and I hear her because my computer chair is close, but I cannot see the door. I then get "the look" and she races past me looking for food, carrying on as though she has been neglected for 24 hours.

When I am watching TV usually between 9-10pm that is when madam does the "in/out" routine until she realises that I have had enough so she settles down for a snooze. Please do not think for one moment that she rules this house and has me wrapped around her front paw!!!

Another (slight) coincidence - DH was sorting out his astronomy books prior to putting some back on the bookcase in the study. They have ALL gone back, however, he has promised to ask DN if he would like some. Just trying to summon up the enthusiasm to go and sort through more boxes of books. I'll stay and have a cuppa first - very windy and raining here now, so looking quite miserable out there

Soutra I posted a sympathetic post for you and Nfk on Friday morning and then lost it. I was hoping you'd both be feeling better by today.

Soutra You must take care of yourself. Feet up, warm blanket over your knees, hot drinks and lots of pampering. I do hope that won't have to cancel your trip tomorrow. ((hugs))

Charleygirl Tara's antics make me chuckle. Rory tells us when he wishes to go outside. He hasn't a cat flap. We then leave the back door ajar and close the inner kitchen door. When he decides to return, he bashes the kitchen door with his head and it pops open. He then strolls in and leaves us to close both doors. Only...sometimes, he waits for the doors to close...and then whinges to go out again!

Elegran that sort of coincidence seems most uncanny. Mr Elegran must have been a very knowledgeable man.

Oh sympathy please! I feel like death and while it is just a bad cold it is making me miserable! I am supposed to be on a trip to the BBC tomorrow which I don't want to miss but am also taking a friend in her mid 70's who doesn't drive and needs me to het her to Bedford to get the coach! DH is saying I should stay in bed (but not actually up to holding the fort) so I shall continue with the Lemsip and hope for the best!

soop I doubt if it beats Tara's. After she got bored with sunning herself she then retired upstairs and I would imagine is lying on my bed, very comfortable thank you. She may rest there for at least another 4 hours.

She is a minx and expects to be let out the front door, totally ignoring her expensive catflap. She has to use it to come in because the cook, housekeeper, butler, doorman etc are all on holiday (permanent) so there is only me to tend to every whim and opening the front door is not on the long list.

The only reason I open the door is to make sure that the 2 ginger bully boys are not sniffing around the front door.

The sun has vanished here but it is not raining (yet). I have just finished a massive on line shop and that will be delivered free tomorrow. I have to be the one receiving the goods because I have ordered wine and this is in case I am not over 18 years of age. That age is a distant memory.

I've just had a co-incidence. I decided it was time I took a deep breath and sorted out my dear late husband's books. so I spent the morning putting them into boxes by subject ready for family and friends to take a look for those they want before they go to the charity shop. Among them were a batch on his most recent interest, astronomy and astrophysics.

At 12 o'clock I put on the Radio 3, and on came "Private Passions", a programme where someone talks about their life/career and chooses records.

The subject was Jocelyn Bell Burnell, one of DH's heroines, an astrophysicist who as a post-graduate student observed the first pulsars! (her supervisor and another man received a Nobel Prize for it - she did not!)
