I know I posted before but I can't find the thread now....re my efforts to get something done about the ivy, brambles etc....I have now just had an answer via the councillor from the SODC, who set the neighbours a deadline of Jan 2nd to sort it:

She says they now say
"I can confirm that the notice has now expired and we have scheduled contractors to begin works in the week of 27th January. I will be visiting the neighbours on the first day of the works to answer any questions and warn them of the increased noise to be expected during the clearance."

Cor!
But she adds 'We live in hope'........
So do I.
..................I started on this a year last October.

FlicketyB and Nelliemoser are absolutely right. I imagine the temptation is to keep checking out of the window but you would be better to shut the curtains, light a candle or two and immerse yourself in a good book or a DVD and try to restore your own peace of mind flowers

And adrenaline and stress is not good for colitis.......

But yes, I will take it easy, and do some of the fun things I haven't felt up to doing!

Nelliemoser Fri 31-Jan-14 19:56:16

FlicketyB Yes I know what you mean! You can keep going on adrenaline & stress and when the crisis ends even if the outcome is good the exhaustion sets in.

AllieO Take it easy over the weekend.

AlieOxon Fri 31-Jan-14 18:57:53

Yes Flickety I have just been playing spider solitaire for ages! A bit spaced out....
I will do most of that!

FlicketyB Fri 31-Jan-14 16:38:53

Alie I find when relief comes after a period of prolonged stress instead of euphoria, which you think you ought to feel, the only feeling is of being absolutely drained.

Nothing will be happening over the weekend, which will give you a break. Given how horrible the weather is I would draw the curtains, light/switch on a fire and sit with your feet up and brew or wine and cupcake

Shed is almost ok.
Men came this morning about 9 with the triffid and went away with it about 1pm, raining hard and they aren't back, I have been with my neighbour to Tesco's - so I hope no more this week.

I really didn't expect this to be so stressful.......

Nelliemoser Thu 30-Jan-14 17:18:38

Allie You could either post them om your own profile page or on one of the GN photo pages.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 17:07:08

The tree is down to about 10', and they are taking the triffid away on a trailer. Just about dark now.
I was worried they would drop the tree on my shed! I will check out there when I can see.

sun - Next door neighbour the other way told me they went shopping this morning which may have been why the workmen didn't come?
They went and returned in a taxi with bags and work resumed just after.

anno I did go out this afternoon but the work went on for longer....

I haven't tried posting pics here, but may have a go Nellie.

So glad that this is getting done at last - any sign of the neighbours?

annodomini Thu 30-Jan-14 16:34:47

Stick a plug of blu-tack in each ear, Alie. Better than wax or polystyrene ear plugs. Or spend the afternoon in the cinema! Oh, well it's too late for that now but there's always tomorrow.

Nelliemoser Thu 30-Jan-14 16:32:29

AllieO I am so pleased it's being sorted for you. When it's all done can you post pictures for us of before and after?

JessM Thu 30-Jan-14 15:59:48

Wow it is obviously a really significant amount of work.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 15:51:20

The are now working on the biggest (40') tree, and I can't watch.
Some of the branches are coming down on my side of the hedge. I have drawn the curtains so I can't see.
I didn't think they would start this today.

Charleygirl Thu 30-Jan-14 15:25:31

I know that you are not moaning, it is such a relief for you.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 15:23:23

i am NOT complaining - just grumbling to let off tension

The tiles don't look like new....amazing amount of ivy/leaves/apparent earth being raked off the shed roof below!
if the roof doesn't leak I would be very surprised.

Charleygirl Thu 30-Jan-14 15:06:46

Alie you have been praying for this day to arrrive! The noise will soon be over and you will be able to see daylight over the fence soon.

I wonder if the roof tiles will look like new having been preserved for so long by so much ivy or if the couple will have to pay to have their roof retiled because the tiles have split which will cause leaks indoors. At least that will not be your problem.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 14:12:05

Yes?
Three days of chainsaws at the back and shredder at the front, so I am glad this bit is quieter......relaxing at soop's at the moment....thank goodness for Gransnet.............................

annodomini Thu 30-Jan-14 14:01:44

All sounds very exciting, Alie. grin

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 13:45:25

That's ok. I'll be at yours!

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 13:43:58

wink AlieOxon Deep breath, shoulders back and keep calm.

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 13:38:10

Yes I will, soop!
A 'cherrypicker' (I call it a triffid) has arrived within the last few minutes, so they must be tackling the ivy on walls and roof.......

soop Thu 30-Jan-14 12:22:01

AlieOxon Escape for a wee while. I've buttered you a hot crumpet and you can have quince preserve on it if you wish. smile

AlieOxon Thu 30-Jan-14 11:49:28

I'm in limbo!

Anne58 Thu 30-Jan-14 11:33:33

Big trees would need a qualified tree surgeon with all the tackle.

Charleygirl Thu 30-Jan-14 11:31:11

Hopefully thay have not left a half finished job? As you say, it maybe another team.
