I notice I seem to be the only person on here at 5.30am. Are you all good sleepers? I quite enjoy Gransnet for having a bit of a rant in the night. Going back to sleep now. G'night!

Thanks LizG and Aka . The power cut lasted about an hour and I was desperate for a cup of tea - now it,s back on I don't really want one. brew

Aka Tue 24-Dec-13 02:43:41

Merry Christmas Eve to you all. Just made a brew and found a trashy book on my Kindle. Will see if that works.

Glad your electricity's back on rockgran

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 02:41:06

Merry Christmas Eve to you as well rockgran

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 02:39:45

Yes I think so. Shall I put the kettle on for a brew?

rockgran Tue 24-Dec-13 02:38:28

We,ve just had a power cut and the constant bleeping of various electrical items devoid of power has woken me. At least it is back on and I can use the internet. Merry Christmas Eve everyone! tchsmile

Aka Tue 24-Dec-13 02:34:57

Think Flower's awake too.

Aka Tue 24-Dec-13 02:34:16

I can hear the wind and rain here too but it's the restless brain with me too.

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 02:31:50

Yes Aka I am awake too, the weather is dreadful and my brain won't close down.

Aka Tue 24-Dec-13 02:21:08

Anyone else wide awake?

Grindos Mon 23-Dec-13 19:58:29

Yes storynanny, one night when my OH had got up to go to the loo and got back into bed, I said, "I feel so lonely lying here wide awake all night." He answered with a loud snore!

storynanny Mon 23-Dec-13 15:44:07

I wish I had even a couple of short phases of sleeping. Since I turned 50. 7 years ago I have not slept before 2am and then never for more than 2 hours in a row.
Tried absolutely everything, from drugs to meditation, alcohol to separate beds, but still waiting for the miracle cure that I am confident one of gransnet members will come up with!
I think maybe I should give up the supply teaching and become a night shift worker.
isn't it annoying living with men who snore away in a deep sleep the minute their head touches the pillow?

Bellasnana Mon 23-Dec-13 09:03:56

Yes, Kiora I am the same in that my sleeplessness goes in phases. It is usually because my brain just won't switch off. I am a very anxious person and live on my nerves which does not help. There has been such a lot to stress me out over the past decade - a lot of illness/deaths in the family, two daughters living abroad both of whom have gone through divorces and troubles ( although one is now happily married), losing a lot of money from a bad investment - the list goes on......it's a wonder I ever sleep at all! tchsmile

Kiora Mon 23-Dec-13 08:19:19

I didn't sleep as well as last night as the night before but still I didn't wake until about 5.30. That's really good for me. I do have bouts of not sleeping well. They can last from a week to months. Then for some reason my sleep pattern can suddenly improve for a week or if I'm lucky for months. Stress can do it but sometimes there appears to be no reason. I often wonder why. Is this the same for any of you?

Granny23 Mon 23-Dec-13 04:48:03

Hello Jane I have been to bed and had a good hours sleep but now up again having a walk (or rather posting standing up) until my left leg settles down. I expect you are back to bed and asleep by now. Ships that pass in the night.......

janeainsworth Mon 23-Dec-13 03:31:02

Hello Granny23are you still there?
Although I often wake in the night and can't get back to sleep it's not usually so bad I have to get up, make a cup of tea and turn the computer on!
Just going to send a few e-mails that are outstanding and hope that makes me feel a bit more sleepy tchhmm

Granny23 Mon 23-Dec-13 02:44:23

DGS said to me today (well yesterday I suppose now) 'Only two sleeps till Christmas' and I thought to myself - probably 4 or 5 short sleeps for me. Then I thought 'amn't I lucky being able to curl up in a warm bed and drop off 2, 3 even 4 times in each 24 hours'. Not sure I am convinced that this is a blessing tchconfused.

i bet you have done loads of worthwhile things in your life grindos if you sit and think about it....sometimes when we are feeling low we forget ....i used to think that ive done nothing with my life and what a waste it was until someone said to me 'write down everything you can remember that you have done' i did this and was overwhelmed by how much i had achieved over the years...

Grindos Sun 22-Dec-13 18:38:28

I don't feel I've done very much worthwhile with my life - if I could find a cure for all us insomniacs, I could die very happy. But then if I could sleep, I wouldn't want to die!

Soutra Sun 22-Dec-13 09:40:23

Why have I never read this thread before? I feel I could have written just about every post! Reassuring to know one is not a freak ( well not in this respect atl least!)

rockgran Sun 22-Dec-13 08:27:33

Well done, Kiora. I think "knowing" you've slept is even better than the actual sleep. Enjoy your family!

dollie Sun 22-Dec-13 08:25:18

i refuse to get out of bed before 7am if i awake early as it just makes for a very long day....i lay listening to the radio...my computer doest go on until around 8am...

Bez Sun 22-Dec-13 08:18:23

I suffered with restless legs for years but it was never every night and like so many tried different cures. However for the last couple of years it has greatly improved and I only get it occasionally - I have no idea why this is at all but to some extent it has morphed into my knees/legs/hips hurting with arthritis. I use Voltarol gel when it is bad and it helps a lot - possibly a connection there?

Kiora Sun 22-Dec-13 07:30:27

Yoop yoop first night in oh I don't know how many i'v slept all night OH JOY. I have my son and his two boys staying for the night so perhaps they've worn me out or perhaps I'm just happy. I could hardly believe it when I looked at the clock and it said 7.17. Sorry if I'm rubbing salt into your tired eyes my fellow insomniacs but I'm so thrilled with myself.

Granny23 Sun 22-Dec-13 07:12:27

Aka Sorry, I cannot offer a cure for that either. I would send a hug but ATM, I might well inadvertently kick or wallop you. Is this the longest night? It certainly feels like it.

Aka Sun 22-Dec-13 07:03:04

Couldn't sleep either due to restless mind syndrome.
