I notice I seem to be the only person on here at 5.30am. Are you all good sleepers? I quite enjoy Gransnet for having a bit of a rant in the night. Going back to sleep now. G'night!

Ariadne Sun 29-Dec-13 06:21:45

Morning! Woke up at 5.30, trying to decide what we'll have for dinner! DS2, DDiL and two small boys followed us down from DS2's last night. DDiL brought lots of lovely cheese and other stuff, and Sainsbury's deliver at 11.00. So no big problem!

Now having coffee and watching Tikkabillla. As you do. With two cuddly little people in their PJs. Nice!

Good Morning Petra. Not sure I meet your criteria - I am up but only half awake!

petra Sun 29-Dec-13 04:18:29

Good morning to all of you who might be awake.

Good morning I have been awake for over an hour. I have been sleeping reasonably well of late, even though I have woken early I have managed to get back to sleep. Oh well may as well catch up with the ironing.

Have been awake for an hour. Insomnia lately. Two hours sleep per night over Christmas.

I'm going to read tomorrow's Guardian now.

rockgran Sat 28-Dec-13 04:50:47

Hello world. I've been sleeping quite well over Christmas but seem to be back to "thinking". Nothing really earth shattering - Wish I could switch off.

I have been asleep but up again for a wee walk. Wind has died down and there is a moonlit, starry sky. The forecast was for rain, sleet and snow overnight but no sign of that. Santa has been and left five red sacks (which look remarkably like the bright red pillow cases that you get in ASDA) of presents and two filled stockings all ready for DD1 and DGS + DGD2 in the morning. Oh and there is another sack in the back bedroom ready for DGD1 when she comes home on Friday. Someone has been very busy tchgrin DD2, SIL and DGD1 arrived safely in Yorkshire this afternoon which is a relief.

Better try back to bed as there will be no long lie today. After the present opening the DGC will stay with us while their Mummy goes to officiate at a 12 noon wedding and their Dad has peace to cook Dinner for them and his family. We are dining at the golf course in the afternoon with Dsis and some of her family. ......and so to bed, again.

Just found this thread so thank you all. I always feel I'm the only one awake at this time of the night so it's good to know there are other people who are also wishing they could have just turned over and gone back to sleep. I don't think of GN in the night for some reason but I will now!

Merry Christmas.

Enviousamerican Wed 25-Dec-13 04:13:15

Hope everyone is asleep in their warm beds! I'll be sleeping when you are opening presents,so enjoy your Christmas! tchsmile

Bellasnana Wed 25-Dec-13 03:38:30

Where is everyone? I've been awake worrying about DD1 driving for five hours by herself from NW Florida to DD2 and family in Georgia. Just heard she arrived and have seen photos on Facebook of both DD's and DGD so can heave a sigh of relief. Merry Christmas to everyone. tchsmile

My insomnia started about two years ago after getting jet lag on a visit to family in America. I listen to story tapes on a little walkman, but as I can't get new one I nearly know them off by heart. Sometimes I get to sleep straight away, then perhaps about half an hour passes then ping! and it is all systems go again. Next about 3am I'm hungry and eat my banana, or a bowl of krispies. (Then have to clean teeth again) Usually manage to drop off for my 3hours. I was prescribed some antehystermine (can't spell it) the Doc said it may make you sleepy and I said yhipee- it didn't. Two nights ago I ended us in my grand daughter's bunk bed (she'd been visiting for a few days) and slept all night til six, then sat up and banged my head! I couldn't believe it. The radio in nice classic FM, a book is good but my eyes get tired. Sorry to ramble on, but if you are awake and need something to read...... It is nice to find like minded souls on Gransnet. (Usually i sleep in the spare room, nice and comfy and cosy DH sleeps like a log). It makes no difference. Happy Christmas everyone.

The way this thread's going it will be trendy to have a rendezvous on Gransnet in the middle of the night - then we won't be bothered about not sleeping through hmm - perhaps the best way?
Having said that, last night I only woke up once, no twitchy leg.

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 13:55:16

I managed to drop off at 4am and woke at 7.30 with the alarm so could have been worse.

Aka Tue 24-Dec-13 08:18:35

Well the trashy book worked. Just woken up.

liminetta Tue 24-Dec-13 07:52:48

Ha,ha; your post made me laugh, Kiora. I am often awake in the night, but lie there, cant be bothered to do anything.Absolutely DONT get up.When, after about an hour, I start to get restless, I try my deep breathing technique(is that how you spell it?)
I stretch out, lying flat on my back and inhale very deeply till I cant get any more air into my lungs. This can take some time and I am concentrating on nothing else.
Next, I exhale slowly til there is no air left; pause, and begin again, inhale, exhale.......very slowly, and concentrate on only this.
This might go on for at most, 20 minutes(after all, what else is there to do at 2.30 a.m?)
I find this technique relaxes me a great deal, even if I don't fall asleep eventually, but sometimes it works and ZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!

Ariadne Tue 24-Dec-13 07:40:15

Hi! Went back to bed about 4.30 so have had some sleep. Feel better. Have a good day, folks.

petra Tue 24-Dec-13 07:25:31

Irrespective of the reasons we are awake, isn't it nice to know your not alone.
That's how feel right now.

Granny23 Tue 24-Dec-13 06:41:48

Two and a half hours sweet sleep and here I am again. Still windy and raining now. DD2, DGD1 and SIL will be up. They want an early start - driving down to his family in Yorkshire today. They came for tea last night which was lovely but I will miss them tomorrow. I can't complain as we have had them here every Christmas since DGD was born and we will see DD1 and her two as usual. AND we get to have a belated 2nd Christmas Day when they come back home. Just wish the weather would improve for their journeys down and up.

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 03:49:23

Think I am going to give bed another try too Granny23 hope you are able to get some sleep at last even if you are fully clothed tchsmile

Granny23 Tue 24-Dec-13 03:42:43

Wow, it is busy on this thread tonight. The wind (in both senses) keeping people awake. A bit windy here but the sky is clear with a big moon. I have not been to bed yet. Have had louping leg since midnight which stops when I walk about and starts again when I sit down. Seems to have eased off now and the cat has, thankfully, come back in so time to try sleeping. Only problem is I forgot to bring my night attire through from the bedroom earlier and I am sure to wake DH when I go looking for it. AH well, needs must. Night All.

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 03:31:32

tchgrin good morning Ariadne hope the tea works.

Ariadne Tue 24-Dec-13 03:17:43

Good morning! It is eerily quiet down here, no gales, no wind, after the storm yesterday. I have indigestion and need to be upright for a while, with a cup of peppermint tea. All self inflicted, (chips) though not alcohol induced! This too shall pass. (Oh dear, I didn't mean....) tchblush

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 02:54:17

Glad your leccy is back on rockgran and enjoy a read Aka
