There is really no excuse for rudeness - whether in a supermarket or on Gransnet.

I've just read the article in the Mail and now I know the full details I consider the check out person was amazingly rude, even bullying.

Blimey, there are some vicious comments out there about Bartoli - as usual on t'interweb, turn up a stone and the creepy-crawlies rush out. It's worrying to think that many of them will pass as "normal" people in the real world.

Inverdale's reaction to the criticism of him is a bit odd. A simple sorry would have sufficed (she seems a very commonsense sort and wasn't a bit fazed by his remark), but no, he has to compound the slip by saying "She is an incredible role model for people who aren't born with all the attributes of natural athletes". What are they then - blonde locks, shiny teeth and Barbie legs?

I don't look at twitter - I have more than enough to keep my happy with Gransnet and three ex-pat forums!
Plus Facebook.

I'd like to see a customer try and talk on their mobile phone in Aldi. They throw the shopping at you so quickly you'd need to be an octopus to manage a phone call as well.

Actually GN, most people would have been able to get their head round that.

Oh there is a lot more to it than John Inverdale' s remark. (Did you see the mention of Twitter GN?)

Bags, she is a French tennis player and won the Women's singles yesterday. John Inverdale made a very rude and sexist remark about her looks and many people are complaining to the BBC about him. It has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread!

Who cares about the customer? Not me. I've been infuriated by this particular kind of rudeness myself whilst standing in a queue behind someone who chatted constantly whilst packing and paying.

However, if I were the cashier's employer I might not be all that happy. I would want staff who could rise above customers' rudeness and deal with it in a firm but polite manner.

Why don't you all go on Twitter and read some of the ugly things that are being said about Marion Bartoli. It might give you some perspective of what is truly rude.

When please consider how your choice of words 'reasonable Gransnetters' can be read. You are implying that those who disagree are 'unreasonable'. I don't think this is the case.

Funnily, there seems to be only me and Sel who are the unreasonable gransnetters.

Funny too, how petulant GNers can become when anyone disagrees with them.

It's good to see the public (and reasonable Gransnetters) standing up to say they are on the side of being polite and courteous, whatever position you are in. The customer isn't always right - we have consumer rights, but we don't have the right to be rude to others without facing the osequences.

That checkout assustant might have been a little tactless in her dealings with the rude cstomer, but I'm glad to see she has been so well supported.

I think you're right, jings. Their ruling 'principle' is to keep the majority of customers on side.
