I wish everybody would discover Snopes, and then perhaps I wouldn't get so many emails from friends eagerly spreading urban myths and hoaxes - I alert them to the fact, and then I feel like a rotter for doing it, but mis-information is dangerous to your brain!
Whenever I receive an email that I suspect of being an urban myth, I look for it on Google and am always proved right. I then do a 'reply all' email which should get back to a number of people, hopefully to prevent them spreading the myth.
I had one the other day that was about reading bar codes and deciphering whether things were made in britain or china I think i can usually spot em at 50 paces these days. The funniest one i ever had was one claiming that the planet mars would look "bigger than the moon" in our skies during the month of August and that we should not miss this fantastic sight.
