Wrinkles

To minimise the number of wrinkles you see when you look in the mirror just take your glasses off.

Oh, I’ve just noticed how old this thread is! I was a fresh-faced GN newbie back then and not even (quite) a Nanna.

This thread made me smile this morning! We came back from a week in Marrakech this Autumn with various argan oil creams and potions- I can certify that no noble gases or defecating goats were involved in its production. For what it’s worth, the eczema cream had no effect, the wrinkle cream is on a par with my Aldi moisturiser, and the salad dressing is tasteless, but may be doing my insides untold good (who knows?). The argan and jasmine hair oil is lovely, smells delicious and gives my hair a nice sheen. I’m sure I could have bought it at half the price here, but at least I helped out the poorest Berber people by buying it (or so I was told ).

Argan oil is very good and useful, but it’s not likely to save you from wrinkles It’s better to use creams like Awaderm in that case

Traditionally, the oil is extracted from the stones of the tree's fruits after they have passed through the local goats. Perhaps times have changed but I can't say that I feel very enthusiastic about rubbing it into my skin or drizzling it over my couscous.

It's argan oil from some sort of a nut, rather than argon gas. It's said that the oil from argan nuts is particularly good for the skin but Asda's sunflower oil would probably do the same job. You could always decant some into a small bottle then no-one would know

Ah well that explains something then. No reason to think it is any better than any other oil is there. Other than that someone has decided to start a big marketing thing. There is always something, acai berries, goji berries etc being pushed as the latest thing for something.

No wonder I was confused!

For the purposes of wrinkle removal, do you rub the argan oil into your skin or consume it with your couscous?
JessM argon was just a typo in the OP. The oil, used in Moroccan cuisine, comes from the argan tree.

I think they are the noble gases.

There will always be snake oil salesmen who prey upon the insecurities of women (and some men). You have to laugh at some of the names of the 'miracle ' ingredients. I just buy the very cheapest cream from the supermarket to put on my shins, so I don't get ulcers- I was told they are a risk when you are getting on a bit. My face has to take its chances!

I got a bottle of jojoba oil for about £6 from a health products website.
this link is from a Cosmetics website, but it refers to pure jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil has the same properties ie level of oiliness as the skin's natural oils so it is a good supplement, and it's also supposed to be good for acne.
I've also tried Bio-oil which was £8 for a small bottle which my DSiL who is a beauty therapist recommended for an unsightly scar on my forehead.
That blends in nicely too.

Those products sound like complete scams I'm afraid. And they probably are.
Very few things proved to cure wrinkles. So miracle cures should be viewed with the same strict scepticism as miracle cures for cancer.
Argon is a rare gas found in small quantities in the atmosphere. You cannot have an essence of a gas. It is not a fruit or a flower! If it was in liquid form it would be extremely cold indeed.
Idrotherapy - good grief! $200! Bound to be a scam!

In Ben Goldacre's Bad Science book he discusses this topic. Cosmetic houses do not publish research just the survey stuff that doesn't amount to a hill of beans e.g. "8 out of 10 women agree their skin looked better" - which is not proper research. So they say things are "clinically proven" but this does not mean anything.
To prevent wrinkles don't smoke and don't suntan your face. Use a sunscreen moisturiser but cheap works just as well as expensive. To make your wrinkles look a bit better, make sure you are reasonably well hydrated, but you don't need to be swigging water all day.

Here is my tip to avoid wrinkles - do not lose weight quickly! Just use Nigel Lawson as a terrible warning. Remember Barbara Cartland's advice 'Once past fifty, you can have the face or the figure - go for the face and sit down a lot'.

I used to do that on business in a year! Since DH died I have lost the will to drive!

I have covered some 20,000 miles in two years - and that is purely for pleasure! My mileage was a lot higher when I lived in the Pyrenees and my family lived in Kent as I would drive up to Calais several times a year. Now I fly to Manchester/Yorkshire. When I did a house-swap in October I drove over 400 miles each way and then did another couple of hundred miles, exploring the Pyrenees Orientales.
I love driving, although motorways can get a bit boring - I only use them if I have really long distances to cover or I am short of time. I would rather map read my way from village to village and town to town. I won't have a Satnav as it would take the fun out of it.
