What's the most romantic thing

Late DH was in hospital on my 50th birthday but pre-ordered very scented flowers arrived with the card merely saying From The Luckiest Husband in the World. Fifteen years later I still have the card. He was husband No.2. No.1 never ever took the trouble to buy me anything but would give me a cheque to buy something for myself. Usually quite a small cheque.

One year no2 gave me an Argos card that been collecting points from buying diesel from the garage for his work to buy something....it had £4.99'on it...he hated shopping and present buying and having to think about it.

When we were trying to bring up two sons , pay bills etc; with only DH working I woke up one morning (Feb 14th) to find that that DH had gone to work, but I was a little upset as he had not left me a valentines card, but I went into the sitting room to open the blinds and on ours sons toy blackboard he had 'drawn' me a valentines picture of a heart and rose ! Money was so tight he had not got any spare to by a card , but this was far better

My post earlier at 02.33am ?? I don't remember writing that I must have downed a few but mr.g did get us home all in one piece.

My husband proposed to me in the waterfall at Haworth and placed the ring on my finger at Oxenhope Station (Railway Children station). I had no idea he had it planned.

I climbed the waterfall as a normal person and came down a sobbing wreck. People thought I'd had a bad fall until I managed to blubber that he'd proposed lol.

The stationmaster at Oxenhope was so delighted that we'd used his station he wanted to give us something but didn't have anything so he let me operate the gates that block the road when the train is coming. That was so exciting and much better than a solid gift lol.

My second OH (waste of space) proposed to me at his friend's wedding, in the middle of the empty dance floor, on one knee, using the microphone! I felt obliged to say yes , wouldn't make that mistake again!

We were only married 18 months and he cost me £10,000!

DH has always worked in the paper making industry, in the area where they recycle old paper to make new.
One morning I got up after DH had gone to bed post night shift.And in various places around the house i.e. the breadbin! I found cardboard hearts (about 5" across) which were covered in floral paper.
He'd rescued them from the recycling and brought them home specifically to hide them and surprize me.
This was about 20yrs ago, and I've never forgotten it, in fact I've still got one

my best anniversary pressie from my late mr f is the round ball of wood that sits atop the bannister, dont know its proper name! when we moved to present house this was missing so he set about chiseling etc and made a perfect replacement and there it sits as if it was always there! lovely

Mr Glass made me an adams fire place years ago, and he inscribed the back of the fireplace with a lovely romantic message, some person will pull that off the wall and think how soppy, but it was perfect...wish I could have taken it with me when we moved.

i,m sure your fireplace will be loved by those who sit round it now! i need to find a way to take my bannister ball with me if and when i move, dont know how i,m going to get it off its solid!

Oh, Glass I love that idea. One of the best things during redecorating our new home has been the messages and drawings exposed when we took the wall paper off and it's lovely to imagine someone finding it in generations time.
Mr Dumpling has bought me some lovely presents but one of the most memorable was early in our marriage when we were a bit stoney and I opened my Christmas present to find - a frying pan. I managed a polite thank you, it's just what I wanted and absently removed the lid. Multi coloured sexy knickers exploded everywhere - much to my embarrassment as I was sitting next to my straight-laced father in law.

My DH was my one and only ever blind date and he proposed to me after 12 days. We have been married now for 44 years and it gets better all the time. He never does anything in a hurry and takes ages to make decisions so for him this was remarkable.

For my 60th birthday he arranged a surprise party for me at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and invited all my old friends. I had no idea and they had to talk me out of wearing my jeans to go out.

It does me good to read these stories - to know there are still men around who make romantic gestures and marriages that last and last. I'm not jealous - my new generations are making up for the deficiencies of the past and if I hadn't had that past, I wouldn't have them. But long live romance.

Didn't want to make anyone else feel sad, Alison. I'm not sad because after ex left, I really found out who I am and had a fulfilling job as well as a spell in local politics. And I have a lovely family.

And now - how about all those other romantic stories - lets have more!

For our 25th wedding anniversary, my not-overtly romantic OH organised a renewal of our vows in the church we married in, then he took me on a nostalgic trip to the Lake District, where we had our (short and economical) honeymoon. He retraced the first day, even booking us ino the same pub in Kendal for the night! It was amazing- he'd remembered every detail - even down to stopping at the Little Chef on the way for breakfast - we were classy in those days! After the lovely trip down memory lane, he then took me to a very upmarket country house hotel in Windermere for the following three days. I was truly amazed - not sure how he'll follow that for our next big one!

I know what you mean, Ella, I think I'd hate it if dear OH got too soppy - he'd be quickly told to pull himself together!

Whenever Mr soop is nice and mellow [thanks to a couple of glasses of his favourite malt] he looks at me with a slight flush on his cheek and says [in a voice that I know so well] ...'have I told you what a difference you've made to my life...?' Before he can finish, I burst into fits of giggles and he finishes up in stitches...

On our 40th wedding anniversary some years ago we had the idea of giving rather than receiving. We decided to take £100 for every happy year (£4000) and divide it up between our children and grandchildren. We even made special cards with red hearts and gold lettering to mark the occasion.

We amused ourselves by saying '£100 for every happy year, let's see that must be about £125 in all' and then bursting out laughing.

We had to joke, otherwise we would have embarrassed ourselves because we are usually not romantic or demonstrative with each other.

Perhaps I should explain the joke. We meant that out of 40 years we had only been happy for one and a quarter of them.
