Mine is finally getting a knitted teddy bear to look reasonable. I am hopeless at faces on any toy I knit. These little teddies looked so easy, but the first two I made are currently starring in their own Horror Movie called "How to terrify a Child."

Seeing the Malvern Hills on our way home from visits to 2 sons and families and spending the last week working very hard on 2nd son and wife's new house. All my nails are broken and my hands feel very dry but I worked longer and harder than I knew I could so now realise there is more life in me than I thought! I loved it but will spend tomorrow slobbing in the garden.

Oh yes, iona - my GD asked me recently, when stroking my hand, why my skin was so big....!

Joan - Before I left this afternoon to chase around, I put out a wooden bowl with a note to the Egg Lady saying that I would love to have 1 doz. if she could manage it.

Tucked in the shade by the back door was my bowl, full to the brim with pale blue duck eggs and speckled brown hen eggs. So pretty I took a photo!

Getting 6 eggs from my 6 chickens today. I wasn't sure if they were all laying: now I know they are. There was a time when i despaired of them: I introduced 2 new point of lays and World War 3 commenced in my chicken run. Feathers flying, angry squawking, the two new ones hiding in a corner from the pecking, the older ones flapping around in a furious tizz and.........and no eggs for ages.

Now they are a cohesive little flock, and producing eggs so big that the egg carton won't close properly.

Mind you, they are spoiled rotten - they get their chicken pellets, plus lots of green weeds, bacon rind, any grubs or snails I find in the garden, apple peel, pumpkin seeds......

Talking to my DD on the phone. she is now feeling so much better after her difficult pregnancy and birth. Was her old happy self. Wonderful!
And our little (!) Violet is doing really well, too. 11pounds and 3ounces already!!

my grandson aged 2 looking at my (slightly!) flabby arms and saying - Granny - why have you gone down? I presume as in a balloon!

I've been to a very good amateur production of Pygmalion. Brilliant performances from the main cast members. Doolittle was particularly memorable. Last show of the season, so we all bought our season tickets for next year.

Met with my very dear friend after many months when she was too ill to visit - ovarian cancer, which after years of chemo was treated with surgery - botched surgery and she had to go back into hospital to deal with a perforated bowel that had been missed - she now has a colostomy.

We met for lunch and then went to my daughter's for tea in the garden with the two wee boys - my lovely D had made cakes, and the sun shone, and the baby sat and cooed on my friend's lap, and 3 year old was chatting merrily and jumping in and out of the paddling pool....a perfect afternoon that I know my friend will treasure. No-one knows whether she will live long enough to see GC of her own - I was very proud of the way that my DD welcomed my friend and generously shared her family with her.

A very special afternoon indeed.

Watched a great crested grebe with her chick at our local reservoir; a beautiful bird and the large chick had rather spectacular markings. Also, in the same small nesting area a mute swan sitting on eggs and a coot with babies. It was like a maternity ward for birds!

Are you walking around in the nude?

MargaretX Thu 24-May-12 21:44:44

GS came for supper and then was collected by his father and then I played Bridge on line. DH is away for a few days and now I'm going to bed to read for an hour.

After a broken night of worrying, I won my Wednesday tennis match. Sewsilver I'm having one of those weeks too - thank goodness for Gransnet.
