Hi mgwnzy. I agree with all the above but I have binned my poo kit. Is that naughty?
I also drag DH out of bed when I want to get to the shops early as he is partially sighted and so long as he's in the car I can use the blue badge for parking.

Lovely to meet you mgwnzy and a good question! I enjoy being a granny much more than I ever expected, and I love the way my relationship with my daughter has deepened since she became a mother.

I love the fact that I no longer feel I want or need a relationship, I feel happy with my independence, with my friends, and with the small things in life.

And I love the fact that I no longer worry so much about what anyone thinks

If only all those people I have lost along the way could be here to share it with me (sorry I know this is meant to be a positive thread)

When I saw your thread title I wanted to write 'grandchildren and retirement', but I see that those have already had plenty of mentions.

I do also agree with Butternut that watching the passing of the seasons is wonderful. In my working life they seemed to pass almost without noticing, but now I walk our local lane every day, and every day the plants/birds/trees/fields are different. I feel so much more in tune with the natural world.

I am enjoying this "Third Journey" with the freedom to do what I want to do, when I want to,
And (I know I am lucky!) having enough money to realise some of my dreams and /treat my DC / DGC
And (fingers crossed) being quite healthy
AND not having to get up at 5.15 in the morning

Yes there are lots of good things about getting older but I must have my hair coloured and looking good and at least some foundation on during the day,its just thing that I have got used to from my days at work,the only thing I really don't like is the fact that my cooking skills are not used as much now that there is only mr.glamma and myself most days,but I make up for it with treats for DGCs by way of baking.

Hear, hear, kittylester! There are a lot of good things about growing older, but I refuse to go grey gracefully or wear flat shoes (I don't find them comfortable anyway!). Half-elasticated waists are ok, as long as they're not on show....

I love everything that everyone has said except I refuse to go grey or wear elasticated waists! Nor am I too keen on flat shoes but find I wear them anyway! I think it is mostly being happier in my own skin than I have been ever before.

Hello Mgwnzy, welcome! I agree with the other posts, growing older brings many benefits, the greatest of which is grandchildren! Mind you, I hate my greying hair, I'm not over keen on my wrinkles, and seeing my mum looking back at me from the mirror is very weird! It's lovely to be among a group of women going through the same thing, though, and I'm sure you'll soon feel at home.

Not having to get up to an alarm.
Having a pension.
Being able to meet friends whenever I like.

I like being the hub of my family
I like that my children are grown and settled
I have more confidence
I love spending great chunks of time with my grandson
I choose my own workload - it's great
I like the way my relationship with my husband has deepened

and I really, really enjoy being a part of this wonderful Gransnet community and am so glad to welcome you mgwnzy.

Almost everything everyone else has said, especially being free to do what I want, plus Living Alone and being able to choose where I travel without having to consult anyone else's tastes.

I've lost my waist (and I don't know where it's gone)

Gardening all day
Occasionally giving up cooking 'cause I've done it for so long

Walking, walking and walking
Most importantly - enjoying the seasons, the countryside and weather-watching!

I love my grandkids, but they are a long, long way away - so skype is very special!

grandchildren are a delight
meeting up with friends for a meal
Not having to get up at some ungodly hour to drive long distance like France
having time to read the paper properly and follow all the political ins and outs

what I don't like is that time is whizzing it is frightening!!

Welcome mgwnzy. Mine are grandchildren, retirement, not being part of the rat race, few responsibilties, wandering round the park with my dog, reminiscing and having a laugh with friends, being able to say no when I choose, not having to wear a suit or attend meetings, getting concessions at the cinema and theatre, and Gransnet!

mgwnzy - welcome! There are so many positives to being the age we are now (and that doesn't mean 'old age'!!) I'm more confident, too - I don't suffer fools gladly and I'm not so eager to please any more, either! Before I joined Gransnet I'd never been part of a forum either - and I enjoy this one so much!
