What's good in your world....?

This weekend I've enjoyed a champagne tea party (where I met a man who really is a 'rocket scientist');
watched all the episodes (do date) of The Bridge;
cleaned the patio and planted some pretty spring flowers round the pond;
attended a 'literary salon' (not really sure what it's about yet, but it was fun meeting lots of new people);
had a lovely chat with the Wonderful Man (who has now been gone since Friday morning and is almost at Hirtshals, North Denmark)
and spent a lovely morning with my daughter, her fiance and my grandson.

Finally - and most importantly - after a terrible accident which resulted in her developing meningitis, the 7 month old granddaughter of a friend is improving and it seems the anticipated damage will be less severe than was expected.

What's good for you right now?

Drove to Bedford for routine dental care. So glad I no longer have those back teeth and their gum disease nooks and crannies.
The countryside looks incredibly beautiful in the sunshine. All the millions of tiny new leaves in their spring colours.
The rape seed fields add wedges of vivid contrast to the landscape.

My very dear sister is good in my world!

I don't get to my Internet as often as so many of you and have only just read sunflower's post, what a lovely picture it conjured up, must be a wonderful place to live.

Yesterday we took youngest son and fiancee to the Eden Project and had a smashing day then drove them back home where they discovered we had been doing 'guerilla gardening' while they were working away, they were very pleased. Back in own bed which is always good and now looking forward to seeing grandsons tomorrow.

I had a lovely long phone call to New Zealand this morning as I won't be able to phone from my sister's house (I get free calls via my ISP).
My youngest grandson, who is 13, achieved Level 9 in his English grade - the highest possible and normally only given to 16 years olds. He didn't tell his mum - he is very modest - but one of his friends told her.
I always feel so happy after talking to her and hearing all about the lives of her six children, who are all happy and successful. The three oldest, who stayed in England, meet up regularly and say they still feel very much part of the family. I am looking forward to getting big hugs from all of them at the second son's wedding in August, in Kent. His fiancee sends me photos and news of my two great-grand-daughters, so she is like another grandchild to me. It is just a shame that my other daughter won't let her children go to their cousin's wedding, although they have always been on very good terms and used to go out clubbing together when they were in their teens.

I had a picnic with friends in the nearby river meadow sunshine and then collected eldest son from the station after he'd phoned to say he was coming for a quick (surprise) visit. Just lovely! grin

After many weeks of hunting I've finally found a lovely dress to wear to my nieces wedding in 5 weeks time. I've lost count of the number of dresses I've tried on in the past few weeks, I thought I'd save hours of shopping and order online, my neighbors must think I'm having a fling with the delivery man he's been to our house that oftenwink. Anyway I decided to try our local shopping outlet, tried on a lot of dresses, found one that I quite liked and my DD liked on me, just as I was browsing some matching jewellery I spotted another dress that I hadn't tried on. I very nearly left it at that as I was feeling quite bedraggled by that point but my DD daughter said to go and try it on. Well it fitted, actually I needed a size smaller much to my delight as I was beginning to deeply regret not losing the weight I had intended for this wedding.

Moved on to the M & S outlet to get me a pair of 'Magic knickers' to even out the bumps and I'm all set to go to the wedding. A very good day for me smile

We've been having new double glazing put in this weekend , deep joy!! the mess has been a pain but it will be nice when its all done and the house is back in some kind of order.. we forgot that all the blinds would have to come down and then be put back up again.. we've only tackled the bedroom and living room so far.. the rest will have to wait till OH calms down a bit..lol , he never was any good with DIY, I'd tackle them myself but he thinks it should be a 'man's job'!!

Also spent an hour looking through some old pics... my Mum Joyce would of been 100yrs old today.. she didn't live long enough to get her telegram sadly..

Have a lovely visit Greatnan smile

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 21:14:08

I am off to Manchester tomorrow for a week with my sister and won't be able to post, unless I pop into her library.
I will have to burn the midnight oil tonight and post enough jokes to keep Soop going while I am away!

We've had a lovely day - it was so sunny and warm. Just sitting outside with a cuppa, and a most magnificent peacock wandered up the drive, and came really close.

The cats were all scared and slunk away! We gave him some corn, and he's been with us all day, displaying such wonderful colours of blue and irirdescent green.

He's been up on the roof of the house and old barn - he's now peering through the french doors at us. If he roosts on the roof we might not be so keen early tomorrow morning! Don't know where he came from, he has no band round his leg. makes a change from the pheasants and moorhen.

Good news for our wee community [200+ souls]...we're to have an official Jubilee beacon lit on Dunskeig. Read it in their copy of Mail on Sunday. Very proud and all puffed up. grin

shysal Sun 13-May-12 13:14:41

Sorry about that, I was gettjng ahead of myself! It feels like June today. I shouldn't wish the summer away, I can't believe in a few weeks it will be the longest day! I shall retreat back into my shell in embarassment blush

nanachrissy Sun 13-May-12 11:38:41

shysal No it's in June, but thank you all the same. I think extra birthdays now and again would be a good idea! grin as long as they don't add up!!!!

nanachrissy Sun 13-May-12 11:36:46

Enjoy your lunch soop and have plenty of wine and laughter smile

shysal Sun 13-May-12 11:36:09

nanachrissy am I right in thinking it is your birthday today, (seem to remember you mentioning it in a thread some time back)? If so then enjoy your day. Pleased to hear you had a great time with family yesterday. flowerssunshine

soop Sun 13-May-12 11:17:28

nanachrissy your post made me smile

Today, Kintyre is many shades of grey. Our good friends in the village have invited us for lunch. We'll ring their door bell, the two dogs will fall over themselves in glee, we'll be dined and wined and well and truly cosseted. And Greatnan we'll tell a few of your jokes. Laughter is always on the menu in their company. Thanks to you, we'll be able to contribute to the hilarity. grin

Maniac Sun 13-May-12 10:44:03

It's such a beautiful day here.Sun shining,birds singing,bees buzzing,I can't believe it's so quiet at this time even in a terraced house with close neighbours No dogs barking,children squealing or or lawn mowers buzzing -yet.
So I'm enjoying! sitting on the patio with another cup of coffee.My lawn needs cutting but it can wait.

nanachrissy Sat 12-May-12 19:03:42

Sounds nice. I'm afraid that mine are mainly French or Italian apart from from a few cheap Merlots I keep in for dd, she actually prefers them! [shudder]

Elegran Sat 12-May-12 17:26:11

I don't know whether the one I used is a good red wine or not. Any experts?

It is called "El Muro" 2010 Tempranilla Garnacha, produce of Spain, 12 1/2% "A soft fruity and easy-going red with bags of dark berry fruits and just a twist of pepper in the finish" Won't need to season the casserole too much then. Maybe the smoked paprika was a step too far. Time will tell, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
