I think forum etiquette is no more than normal good manners. I would not correct someone's grammar if I were speaking to them in person, and I don't correct any member's grammar, spelling or punctuation on forums.
Not easy for a pedantic former English teacher!

I can ignore personal insults (I think they say more about the poster than about me) but I think they are usually considered to be in breach of forum etiquette.

And what makes you think they "sold" them? "The press" could have simply read the thread!

imjingl Sat 21-Apr-12 22:42:48

sorry. missed an 'a' out.

imjingl Sat 21-Apr-12 22:42:29

I doubt if nannachrissy is often known as nanchrissy in her own neighbourhood. hmm

granjura Sat 21-Apr-12 21:09:54

Is there a 'groan' button on here?

ninnynanny Sat 21-Apr-12 21:02:26

Granbunny I wasn't referrring to you, I think your posts are correct re etiquette. I was referring to the poster.

greenmossgiel Sat 21-Apr-12 20:19:59

Butternut, I think I understand. Although we don't feel 'unsafe' by having our profile information available for those on gransnet who would like to see us and find out about us, we may suddenly feel 'exposed' or vulnerable. sad

granjura Sat 21-Apr-12 20:16:16

And that is fair enough Butternut.

Must say that ever since Management sold some very very personal comments on here about sexuality, which were published in the Press, I also feel that one has to be very careful on the Internet.

Butternut Sat 21-Apr-12 20:10:40

Hi greatnan - It's difficult to explain on here why I wanted to re-instate my privacy. It wasn't the photos in themselves, or the profile blurb, nor that I thought they could or would be used inappropriately, but rather a personal sense of needing to take a step back and reassess where I was with being on a forum. That all - just me being me I guess.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:59:32

ninnynanny, i hope you do not think i am being sarcastic.

ninnynanny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:54:05

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Some of you were I feel unkind to Ian42 about his belief in angels.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:44:37

'Let's keep our sense of perspective and sense of humour,' - some of the jokes are really good - that's another reason to hang around wink

greenmossgiel Sat 21-Apr-12 19:28:20

And me - bored, now.

GoldenGran Sat 21-Apr-12 19:27:50

Hello, what is going on? I have not been on here for a coupleof days, and there seems to be a bit of an upset. All I can say is that I love Gransnet, and despite us not really knowing each other, and being a bunch of diverse people from all walks of life, there has been a remarkable lack of bitchiness and unpleasantness and we should strive to keep it that way. it is fine to disagree with each other sometimes,I think it would be odd if that never happened, but we must keep personal insults out of it, which I think we do. Let's keep our sense of perspective and sense of humour, which is the thing I value most on here..sunshine

Ariadne Sat 21-Apr-12 19:24:46

Oh,for heaven's sake. That's enough for me.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:17:06

it is amazingly welcome and appreciated when they do, jingl.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:16:31

if you're having a pop, carol, expect it right back.

imjingl Sat 21-Apr-12 19:15:50

I can see your point about supportive private messages granbunny. I just think it would be better if people expressed their support openly on the forum.

Carol Sat 21-Apr-12 19:10:59

Blimey granbunny you don't give a person a chance, do you?

Signing out till it's peaceful again

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:04:27

grateful. i can spell that one, it was a typo.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:03:52

jingl - some people were openly supportive and some pm'd. i was greatful for the pms then and for others since then.

Greatnan Sat 21-Apr-12 19:03:17

I would never bother reporting any post, as I feel more than capable of dealing with them myself and I don't get upset easily.
I don't understand why you would want to remove your photos, Butternut, as can't see any way that anybody could use them inappropriately, but of course it is your decision.

granbunny Sat 21-Apr-12 19:02:11

nanachrissy- thank you. that's exactly what i expect, to be as welcome, or as unwelcome, as anyone else. incidentally, have you taken down your pics? when many people were being nasty i did go through all the pics (not just the nasty people - but i did want to recognise them if i ever saw them!)...you looked amazing!

carol - you take such a superior tone. is it really 'welcoming'?

imjingl Sat 21-Apr-12 19:00:33

I think we would benefit from the absence of private messaging. I think that makes for cliques/ganging up.

No offence meant to anyone at all.

glassortwo Sat 21-Apr-12 18:58:28

Phewww butter thats ok then smile I have seen your photos so now its too late grin

nanachrissy Sat 21-Apr-12 18:56:51

Granbunny You are as welcome on here as anyone else smile
