My OH asked me this question this evening and I couldn't come up with an answer.

What are you giving up?

In addition to giving up something for Lent we usually aim to DO something positive as well. A couple of years ago my husband and sons decided that they would start to give blood. As my husband and eldest son are averse (seriously so) to anything remotely medical this was a really big deal for them. Eldest son very nearly backed out the first time and had to be encouraged and cajoled through the door and my husband came very close to passing out, but they all went through with it and now donate blood regularly.

Yes! Procrastination!!! That is a good one!

Will get off arse now.

Thanks, Zephrine, that was lovely. It will be a long time before the snow leaves my bit of France, but in the meantime you painted a wonderful picture.

Zephrine Wed 22-Feb-12 08:30:35

I'm giving up winter. I don't know what's going on in M.K. Jess M but up here I have Crocus, Snowdrops & Hellebores out, soft furry buds on pussy willow bursting through, daffs up and with buds on, shoots visible on roses and clematis and loads of other things showing signs of spring. The birds are chasing each other around and I have just seen a blackbird pulling beakfuls of moss out of the lawn (says a lot about my lawn) and flying off with it and the Jackdaws are poking sticks down next doors chimney.

Cripss, nuts, chocolate and cake - more to do with a target weight loss for Easter than any religious significance.

JessM Wed 22-Feb-12 07:03:27

I think you should consider carefully whether or not to give up procrastination sewsilver. Maybe next year? grin
I am always trying to give up negativity. Scared of turning into someone who reads the Mail.
Oh bring on spring Bagitha please. Other than a few timorous crocuses there is nothing going on here.

bagitha Wed 22-Feb-12 06:57:02

I looked up "Lent" and discovered it's from the Old English word for Spring. Sounds like a time to revel in the world's renewed warmth and abundance after the deprivations of winter to me.

crimson Wed 22-Feb-12 00:05:15

...but, then again....

crimson Wed 22-Feb-12 00:04:34

..you'll probably give up procrastination...eventually.....

Sewsilver Tue 21-Feb-12 23:39:48

Negativity and procrastination. Wish I could.

crimson Tue 21-Feb-12 23:27:35

I shall endeavour over the course of the next year to start doing something really subversive so's I can then give it up for Lent and feel really righteous....wink

MaggieP Tue 21-Feb-12 23:15:01

glassortwo that is exactly what I and DH are doing! Good luck smile

Greatnan Tue 21-Feb-12 21:38:03

No need to apologise- I just thought people might miss it if it were not in the right section.

yogagran Tue 21-Feb-12 21:35:43

Ooops sorry greatnan

Greatnan Tue 21-Feb-12 21:12:52

Shouldn't this be in the religion and spirituality section?
