Sounds like a good idea, Baggy. I have the same intention!
My other challenge is to write a novel: I already have a basic idea: it will be science fiction - after all, you can do anything in science fiction! I've written a short story which will be the basis of the book, and will run it by my writers' group on Wednesday to see what they think.

What is your next challange..have you got one??
(55 Posts)I passed my motorcycle test on Tuesday "whooopeeeeee" lol
and now in need of a New! challange!
I think it will be to shed 1 stone! no time limit and hopefully more excersise.
Anyone else got a challange in mind for now or the future?
I've challenged myself to use up some of my stash of fabric scraps (I have been a keen sewer all my life) by making another patchwork quilt with them. Some of the scraps are quite small but I will find a way to use them. For the record, I've made four five-inch squares so far. I wonder how long the whole thing will take.
Ah well the download-able electronic book is made for you then!
jessM your book sounds interesting....must admit I dont seem to find time to read these days..I think I the laptop has taken over my reading of books...tut tut..
lol @ expatmaggie....would love to have been there lol..
expat, I fell off my push bike when I was six months pregnant with DD2 and chipped my elbow. I knew the baby was fine; they are well protected by all that amniotic fluid and anyway my arm took the worst. The reactions from the hospital ante-natal consultant and my GP were quite different. GP wanted to know what I was doing riding a bike (^Going somewhere^, I said) and hospital chappie, when I told him about the GP's reaction and what I had said just smiled and said, Obviously! He did tell me that I might never be able to straighten my arm again properly but humping full buckets of nappies around soon sorted that.
I was back on my bicycle after a few weeks, rode it until a few days before DD2 was born (making allowances for my altered centre of gravity), had a one hour and twenty-five minute labour, and was back on the bike two weeks later. It was my freedom machine! We lived five miles out from the centre of Edinburgh and, on a Saturday morning, when DH was at home, I would cycle into town for a bit of me time between feeds. Someone said youth is wasted on the young but, looking back, I don't think mine was.
expat
at you climbing back on and looking over your shoulder in case the examiner had wandered around the corner!
Well done Bikergran. I passed my motorcycle test in 1964 and in those days you just drove round the streets and there was an examiner standing on the corner. My modern little Honda bike had little flashing lights to signal right or left, but the Test was not that modern and I had to drive with hand signals. I was so keen to pass that in changing hands I fell off the bike, but there was no examiner on that street!. I picked myself up and drove round the corner signalling right and left and stop like in the Highway code. I passed.
I loved that bike and rode it until I was 6 months pregnant when the doctor at the ante-natal clinic saw my crashhelmet in my lap. He was appalled
I won't drive another, I now prefer my warm car.
yes biker I eventually passed the next test, the whole test centre were down with the flu so I ended up with the Head examiner who put me at my ease straight away, he started the test by offering me black bullets and in the middle of the test he asked me to take him to the post office as he needed some stamps, it was not like I was on a test, but passed with flying colours, and that was too many years ago to remember.
thanks again all...wear ? lol..well actualy you wouldnt recognise me as I muffled up with armoured textile clothing..(saven me from a prob boken shoulder/arm last time).and hi vis jacket...doesnt look very sexy but hey!!! im past sexy these days..more into comfort and saving myself.lol..I will update photo soon...ok well I suppose the potatoes are NOT going to peel themselves... going to have to unfasten my seat belt from the computer chair..catch you all later ta ta..
Lots of smiles reading your posts about passing your motorcycling test, biker! I'm enjoying your enjoyment of your achievement. Well done!
Well done BIKERGRAN fabulous vision of you on your bike - what do you wear?
I have just finished yet aother OU course this one on creative writing which sadly I cant recommend unless you like reading and writing contemporary poetry- I have no ear for it myself.
Like others I am plodding through the book - the plot and chapters are clear in my head and if it wasnt such a nice sunny summer I would be doing more of it! So more of that this winter and hope to publish in the spring
bikergran Good for you and jolly well done!!
No
as they don't mix with motorbikes!
When I took my driving test another man followed the examiner out to the car, he turned to me and said " just ignore me, i'll be in the back seat but I am here to examine the examiner " I was nervous when I started but at the first junction I stalled the car, I decided i'd failed before i'd really started so just wanted to get it over with. The man in the back seat was bobbing up and down like a jack-in-the-box while I was reversing and I was nearly wearing him as a scarf after the emergency stop. I passed first time, thankfully, I don't think I could have put myself through that again.
thanks all.... seems to be a lot of running /jogging going on in here lol...I can hear the panting now! lol..I was not built for jogging lol..think I was behind Dolly Parton in the breast que lol lol.....
Granny...you will be totaly exhausted! but you know you will love! every minute lol
glassortwo I presume you have now passed your driving test?
yes and your right you become over familiar, as I knew every pot hole/rut etc on the 4 routes. There were 2 examiners one being ever so freindly puttig you at ease, but of course I had to get the "growler" lol who spoke only the words that were nessesary. the windy bendy road I had to go round was 60mph and you are expected to do that!!!
on big bikes , I was on smaller 125cc but I had heard the examiner fail the previous student for only going 30mph on the 60 route...so I just thought your going to have to just go for it girl or he will fail you!! I managed 45mph on wet lane avoiding a skip and a man walking right out into the road with his dog! phewwww
I am still on cloud 9 (or is it 7) lol..I wil pop out later and take my L Plates off wohoooo.....anyone fancy a ride!!!! lol ta ta for now..have a good day whatever your all doing...
Cheers Bikergran.
It's going to be called "Your intelligent immune system - a user's guide"
I have enjoyed getting back into biology but considering the comments of critical readers is tricky - do i agree with them or not and if so, what should i cut or change...
Got some good advice on running which is to strengthen the legs rather than do lots of distance. "you don't have to run 10k in training". We all need strong legs.
Yoga - where would i be without it. Seized up with a bad back that's where. It is a great way of retaining/improving flexibility and mobility. If you can find a class at the right level. Need to find some non-violent yoga classes for the summer though, cos my teacher takes a 2 month break and my self discipline not great...
biker do you think that they only employ fierce looking examiners! It was probably in your favour doing a different route as I think you can get complacent with practised routes, I remember when I had my driving test the examiner said approaching the roundabout to the test centre 'right head home', well home to me home was straight over the roundabout but the test centre was right and yes thats right I headed home (could have offered him a
) and had to change lanes and failed my test!
I have had neighbours say something similar when I am moving a tonne of sand or a pallet of blocks or a pile of house stone, but I hate someone telling me 'dont you do that its mens work' well anything they can do I can do, it only makes me more determined (well for the time being)
Congratulations Bikergran. My challenge is to get through nearly 3 weeks of my daughter and family coming to stay. I love to have them but the house seems so tiny with 6 people living in it.
Yes, I have a challenge! It is a 5k chairty race towards the end of this month, I am running/jogging 4/5 times a week and am getting better and better times!! I can't tell you how chuffed I am because I am not a youngster and what I have discovered is that I actually LOVE it!! When my 'race' challenge is over, then the long-term challenge is to "keep on runnin'" towards my 60th!!!
Congratulations, Bikergran.
dohhhhhhh "challange" & "your" do we have a spellchecker here yet lol..
thanks " twizzle"
"JessM" you certainly have some challan ! does oyur book have a title as yet?
good luck with the 10k run..lets know how you go and and keep us informed
yoga? now theres some thing I have always fancied trying,, I think we tend to sieze up as we prgress in our yrs if we do not take regular excersise..so good luck with that also.
Well done you. My immediate challenges are to get the blooming book finished and published on Amazon. Plodding through feedback at the moment. And to run a 10k for Leukaemia and Lymphoma research on October 2nd. If i can jog the whole distance i will be pleased with myself. Very. Next I think to train as a yoga teacher so that I can teach very gentle yoga for the non athletic. There is a lot of the strenuous type around and it is only suitable for the hyper fit.
Congratulations bikergran
lol thankyou Baggy..gosh nothing on tv as usual, thought I would pop on here see who was about.got cup of tea (no wine that I can find)!
