Retrain hospitality workers

Would it be feasible for all those destitute 'hospitality' workers to be quickly retrained as carers or nursing auxiliaries?

This will not be the first pandemic or the worst pandemic, and when this has abated there will still be a need to be prepared for the next pandemic.

From what I understand about 'hospitality' workers' (not a lot!) they are already imbued with the attitude of service and doing as they are told. I believe they would be ideal people to retrain for more specialised care.

I would guess that most of them would not be interested in this type of work.

There are still number of retired nurses like me who are waiting to be called. I may not be up to date with ITU but I still know how to keep a patient clean comfortable, fed and watered and comforted.

Retraining involves time doesn’t it and something more immediate is perhaps more helpful, such as the Co-op when they took on, I think, 30,000 temporary staff from the hospitality sector.

I can't imagine many people queuing-up to retrain as a carer - can't say I blame them. Would you like to be a carer at this time?

Yes, I would love to be some use. I was a nurse and a lecturer in further education decades ago. Many mature students I met were the sort of capable people, home helps and the like, who would be great after a brief retraining.
