That's one tough lady!! As long as her quality of life is good - long may it continue. Mind you, your nerves are probably in tatters

nina here are some for you and your mum. Not an easy time for you - but as far as your mum's concerned, she's just not ready yet, bless her. How good that you can rest easy that she's comfortable where she is. You be kind to yourself. x

I know somebody who went in to care in early 2009 and the doctor said she would last 6 months to a year.
She is still alive.

Yes it really is a rollercoaster.
Unfortunately I wouldn't say her quality of life is that great. She is immobile, doubly incontinent, can't make conversation and doesn't eat.
But as long as she is not in pain, long may she continue.

The lady I am talking about eats like a horse.
I visited her once and took her a Cornish pasty. About 20 minutes later she said I had not bought her anything and I went and got her a sausage roll and gave it to her.
As I left I saw a lady who I knew was visiting her. I told her she had a Cornish pasty and sausage roll.
The resident told this lady nobody had come to visit her and nobody had given her any food.

I once helped a lady to get attendance allowance under the special rules for those not expected to last more than 6 months. Five years later she was still going strong!! - she just defied all the predictions.

Must be a bit of a roller-coaster for you nina - it is amazing how some peope just rally and bounce back.

Nina, so glad she rallied - we were told once that our mum would not make the night, and they put her as dnr, I was expecting the
worse when the phone rang at 6.30am, to be told she had sat up and asked where she was ! She lived another 6 years....
