Act of Oblivion by Robert Harris

I've been a big fan of Robert Harris ever since I read "Pompeii". I've read many of his novels since then, and never been disappointed. I hadn't seen this one, though, so thanks for the tip.

I have read far too few of his books. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

DH, an ex Latin teacher, likes his books too - reads them in the German translation of course. He knows Latin, Ancient Greek and French, but his English isn't up to reading a book.

Also. Mr Harris was very good looking, I think. Nowadays perhaps just "distinguished" but still a jolly good egg.

The Cicero books are his finest. The first is Imperium, the second Lustrom and the third Dictator. Loved them all. They must be read in that order.

I heard it on radio 4s A Book at Bedtime and have suggested it for my reading group.

I listened to this on audio from my local library delivery service.

Brilliantly told story even though you sort of know the ending. Such a great feeling for the times.

I have enjoyed other books by Robert Harris.

I bought it on Kindle for DH but was pulled in by reading the sample you get. It’s easier to read than The Second Sleep. The execution is a bit gruesome, but nothing like the horror of Germinal.

I've read some of his books. They're always well written so I'll ask the library to reserve it (unless I get it for Xmas!!)

So pleased there are others who have enjoyed it. I read some mixed reviews so even wondered about getting it but really enjoying it. I didn’t mind the description of the execution. It set the scene and atmosphere which was necessary for the telling. Yes graphic and a bit ugh! But the story quickly continues.

Really enjoyed this book. It’s an absolute page turner and the story is fascinating.

I bought it at the airport a few months ago, my husband read it whilst we were away and said it was excellent, particularly if you're a history fan. It's on my list to read early next year. I was warned there are a couple of pages to skip regarding a bloody execution, which I know I won't like.

I haven’t read any of his books, but I did pass him on a canal walk near to his home and he said hello to me with a nice smile 😀

I haven’t read this one but I do enjoy his books, particularly those set around WW11. He’s a writer who certainly hasn’t got stuck in/on one era unlike a great many writers.
