Loved all of them but I think the first was the best. Also read a couple of novellas, one set in Germany with a different detective.
Rivers of London made me want to go and explore all the different watercourses in the capital. Bit of a pipe dream really as I live so far away but might do the Thames walk one day.
GrannyRose15 it made me look up a lot of background stuff, sent me down some interesting highways and byways. It’s also made me wonder if the river running behind our house has its own genius loci!
Bought them for DH but read and loved them myself even though, as a general rule I don’t like fantasy. Just reading Tales from the Folly. I wish he’d write more.
If you liked the Rivers of London books and have run out, you might like the Midnight Mayor books ( Katherine Griffen? Off the top of my head, will check) Or the Paul Cornell books. All make London that bit more magical than it already is...
The Charlie Stross books are good too - often nice short reads.
I found out today that the Romans called our river Belisama and Belisama was the name of a Celtic goddess! There are a few Roman sites near here so that’s more for me to investigate.
Thanks for the suggestions for other books and authors.
Thanks for the reminder - I read the first two and then sort of drifted away. I thought they were really clever and readable, I’m definitely going to pick up the third one as my next read.
