It Still Works, So……

Cleaning the toaster today, I realised how shabby it is.

DS and DIL bought us the matching toaster and kettle for Christmas, not sure when, but must have been over 20 years ago as we were living in our old house.

Kettle long deceased, but the brave little toaster still going strong.

The writing saying the make and cancel, reheat, defrost, hardly legible, plus the top bit rather browned.

But it still toasts!

Is it just me, reluctant to stop using something that works even though many would have replaced it long ago?

Back in the day, a toaster was a good wedding present, and expected to last a lifetime. Now, can be replaced for about a tenner.

Too shabby to put on a ‘Give For Free’ site also.

hmm

Absolutely keep on using it! If you don't it will just go to landfill.
You don't need anything sophisticated to simply burn bread ....

Nothing we put in the black bin goes to landfill, so our council tells us.

All burnt, and used to make electricity, I believe.

🤷‍♀️

No, I’m a great believer in hanging on!
I hate that we are a throw way society.

My toaster a Dualit is over 30 years old.
I think it was £100 but worth it!

My Aigle wellies again were about £100 but lasted me 20 years, I could have got more out of them but they started to rub.

Buy good buy once.

I never replace anything before it stops functioning. Why would you?

Agreed. We own old item, hopefully they'll see us out.

As the saying goes - if it's not broken why fix it. Also, I know of some people that have replaced their sofas more times than I've changed my knickers 😃 More bizarrely though a friend is on her 3rd wedding ring, 5th engagement ring and I've no idea how many eternity rings she's had. She buys them all herself. She's still married to her first and only DH but says she gets bored with the rings. Clearly fashion beats sentimentality with her.

I dont tend to either.

My electric oven looks bad now, but it soldiers on..

All our small electrical appliances in recent years have lasted only a short time, so I would definitely hold on to an older one that still works.

Whilst ever anything continues working well, why change it? I suppose it might be because someone fancies a change or the item no longer matches what you have, but really, unless something looks totally past it then keep it - I’m not sure new things necessarily have the same build quality.

Neroli only replace when it’s broken
However ever since my toaster gave up the ghost I use my air fryer to toast bread in doesn’t take much longer than a toaster
