Thank you Willow. I didn’t actually open the message, just deleted it. If I’d opened it, I’d probably have seen the ‘block the sender’ button. I know that for another time, though, should the occasion arise 😁.

Don’t worry about it we often get messages from unknowns They can’t really cause much trouble just remove and if you are unsure block them Mostly they are just harmless and you don’t have to engage

They could cause trouble if people reply?

Who knows what goes on on private pms.

I sometimes think a whole other world goes on on them, in more ways than one, if people want them to.

I suppose all you can do is delete them unread? But that is still a faff!

Yes it was Chester! Does he/she do this often?

I had two from him, once today and once a week ago?
I thankfully get very few.

Hadnt realised there was a block button to press.

Chester has been very busy again today.
Probably just harmless, but block it, if you want to.

Mine is a very friendly message from someone in San Francisco.

If it's a user name that hasn't been seen before, perhaps it's someone new who hasn't yet realised the aversion for private messaging that many people seem to feel. I used to belong to a couple of book discussion groups (many moons ago in the Dark Ages when everything happened by email) and it was perfectly normal to have private discussions with other members quite separately from the main thread discussions. I made some very good friends that way. But then trolling took off as a popular hobby among weirdos, so the practice seems to have died out. Maybe we have a new member who hasn't yet got the hang of the site. I wouldn't block anyone after only one private message (depending upon what it contained, of course!).

I’ve had a message too and couldn’t work out why. I’ve never seen the user name before and it was in response to a post that didn’t really need a private opinion.

Hello, just wondered if anyone can tell me how to block a poster who has posted me a personal message (pm). I’ve just deleted the message without reading it, but I know others have had pm’s from this poster and feel the said poster is somewhat dubious and have blocked them.

I would like to permanently block this poster if they pm me again, but can’t see how to do it, all that comes up is an option to block all pm’s, which I don’t want to do as I don’t want to block all posters, just this one.

Hope someone can help.
